These two pictures below, while both beautiful in their own way, tell an important story. Today has been extremely windy: ice shacks have flown away, semis have blown over, and wildfires have been kicked up, all within an hour of here. Soil is not immune to the wind, and visibility was very low on parts of the freeway as I drove home from Stevens Point today. As I got close to home, I came round a bend and saw dirt cyclones swirling across the field pictured below. It wasn't the only field with that issue, but to many of my neighbors’ credit most of the fields have some residue or cover on them in the winter. Jordan took the second picture at the farm a little later in the day, but it was no less windy. As you can see, our soil and its ecosystem, organic matter, and nutrients, are staying put, where they belong! We have made strides in WI in protecting our soil in recent years, but definitely have a ways to go. Thank you for supporting agriculture that protects our precious soil!
We will be delivering to Madison and the Fox Valley on Saturday, place your order by 9pm Friday at https://parkelm.farm to get your pastured pork raised on healthy, protected soils brought straight to you!
