In 2020 Setas Mushrooms opened its doors with the short-term goal of delivering fresh, dried mushrooms.

Our long-term goal is to reduce the amount of plastic and reliance on resource-constrained material in the world using mycelium as packing material.

On the weekend at the farmers market, a customer stopped by and tried our Setas Mushrooms coffee for free. He told us he really enjoyed the coffee ☕️ and appreciated that it’s not bitter anymore.

Hearing feedback like this means a lot to us because we are always working to improve the flavor and overall experience for our customers.

Every opinion helps us grow and continue creating products people truly enjoy. Yaaay 🤩… maybe we’re doing something right after all. If you see us at the market, stop by, try a sample, and let us know what you think.

Weekends are my social dance 💃 time. It’s when I get to meet new people, reconnect with friends, and enjoy the community around me.

For the next six months, this is also my “part-time job” — setting up, showing up, and putting in the work. And honestly, it’s 100% worth it.

To all of my customers… 💜 thank you. Thank you for your time, your conversations, and your support. It truly means more than you know.

Looking forward to many more weekends together.

This morning, I received a message from a chef that made my day 💜

“The mushrooms were so GREAT! I haven’t found better quality anywhere.”

Moments like this remind me why we do what we do. Every early morning, every late night, every challenge along the way is worth it when our mushrooms create something special on someone’s plate.

It’s not just about growing mushrooms. It’s about delivering quality people can taste and trust.

The magic 🪄 happens in the fruiting chamber. With the right balance of temperature 🤒 , humidity, and airflow 💨 , shiitake mushrooms 🍄‍🟫 grow in a way that feels almost unreal. But it’s not luck, it’s precision. Every condition is controlled to create the perfect environment for life to emerge. Shiitake reward patience, developing slowly into rich, earthy mushrooms with a deep, meat-like flavor. This is where science meets nature, and discipline turns into abundance. What people see on the plate starts here, in a carefully engineered space where growth is guided, not forced.

46 years in, and I don’t take a single day for granted. Every challenge, every lesson, every win has shaped who I’ve become and the path ahead.

Always great to see William again 🙂. every visit leaves me sharper, inspired, and more committed to what mycology can do for the world.

And yes, we grow coffins.

Not as a gimmick. As a solution.

Traditional burial pumps chemicals into the ground. Cremation burns fossil fuels into the sky. Both leave a heavy footprint long after we’re gone.

At Setas Eternal Living, we grow MyCoffin from mycelium, h**p, and water. It’s biodegradable, carbon-negative, and designed to return to the Earth naturally.

It’s always a gift to spend time with a mentor 👨‍🏫.

This week we had a visit from William Padilla- Brown, one of the first people to grow cordyceps in the United States 🇺🇸 . His journey into mushrooms is equal parts fascinating, unconventional, and genuinely fun to hear.

William has that rare mix of deep technical knowledge and an easy way of teaching. Watching him work, and learning directly from someone who helped pioneer cordyceps cultivation here, is a reminder of how much craft and patience goes into growing something truly exceptional.

Grateful for the time, the stories, and the hands on lessons. Thank you for teaching us how to grow beautiful, fat cordyceps.
