It is an interesting time of year. As we sow seeds for some types of vegetables in one greenhouse, we have bucket tomatoes blooming and beginning tomatoes on them in another greenhouse. As some types of flowers are still rooting deep into the soil, other flowers are showing their pretty foliage, budding, or blooming. It is really neat to see all of these different growth stages occurring simultaneously at Sunnyhill Greenhouses. Cool season plants, tomato buckets and cups, herbs, foliage plants, and some types of flowers are ready.
Recently, we have noticed this lavender has begun to provide an extremely fragrant scent as we water the greenhouses. Early spring is a good time to transplant this type of lavender into your garden or a container, to add a beautiful look and sweet smell to your landscape. In addition, it attracts pollinators and has multiple different qualities and uses. Stop by Sunnyhill Greenhouses for this item or other plants for this spring season.
As April approaches this week, there are many important items to add to our to-do lists for our flower and vegetable gardens. Throughout the month, it is time to begin thinking about spring annuals, perennials, and vegetables as the season warms. We are seeing lots of growth at Sunnyhill Greenhouses- our tomato buckets are blooming, and some of our flowers are beginning to show color too! We have miscellaneous items ready, including cool season plants, tomato buckets and cups, foliage plants, and some types of flowers.
Did you know that cool season vegetables need cool temperatures for growth and to produce more sugars, both contributing to their taste and crop quality? Cool season crops are very diverse, ranging from those that we enjoy eating the leaves of -like this lettuce- to those that we eat of the stem, root, bulb, or even flower bud. You can find many different types of cool season vegetable plants currently at Sunnyhill Greenhouses.
Happy Spring! The transition from winter to spring is a wonderful time of year because the beauties and wonders of nature begin to reappear. It is when the flowers begin to bloom and when the sun’s rays seem to shine a little brighter. A few early flower blooms greeted us the past few days, encouraging signs of the many blooms to come as the spring season progresses at Sunnyhill Greenhouses.
For St. Patrick’s Day, we wanted to share pictures of a few of the green plants in our greenhouses. The color green is associated with growth, spring, optimism, and hopefulness. As the gardening season begins, many look forward to watching plants grow because of the joy and excitement that it provides. Twenty varieties of miscellaneous cool season vegetable plants (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, kale, collards, swiss chard, lettuce, onion, and much more) are currently ready, with multiple types of other plants and flowers continuing to grow. Stop by Sunnyhill Greenhouses!
Do you remember some of those tiny seedlings that we pictured earlier in the year? Over the course of multiple weeks, we have watched the plants grow larger and stronger. As the days also grow longer, Sunnyhill Greenhouses will be opening for our 2022 spring season, beginning March 1st! Please note, the plants that are currently ready include cool season vegetable plants (cabbage, etc.), lettuce plants, onion plants, and a few types of foliage hanging baskets. Numerous other types of plants are still growing and will be ready in the coming weeks! If you have any questions, please message us.
How can such little things spark so big of dreams? This was a question that we asked as we held these hundreds of microscopic seeds in just the palm of our hands. We have been sowing multiple thousands of seeds over the span of many weeks now. Every time we sow seeds, it makes us think of how the growing process teaches patience. Some seeds take days to germinate, while others take weeks. Seeding is the beginning of a long growing season at Sunnyhill Greenhouses, as we begin to see the results unfold from our efforts as spring quickly approaches.
The sun shined down on the greenhouses as we surveyed the seedlings and transplants this morning. The many different stages of germinating seeds, seedlings, and transplants around us provided a welcome reminder of how every new year can provide opportunities for new growth. We are continuing to work daily and look forward to Sunnyhill Greenhouses's 2022 season. Our family will keep you posted throughout the year: from sowing seeds for your spring flowers and plants to harvesting those delicious summer vegetables to growing items for your fall season. If you have any questions, please message us. Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas from Sunnyhill Greenhouses! This festive looking plant has always amazed me this time of year as it produces its own red berries along its greenery, resembling ornaments on a Christmas tree. Christmas is characteristically filled with surprises, including the many surprises that occurred on that first Christmas day. Our family hopes that everyone has a wonderful Christmas day filled with nice surprises and many good memories.
During Thanksgiving, it is suggested to reflect on what we are thankful for. We are thankful for many things, including the seeds that we will begin sowing very soon; the seedlings that sprout from these seeds; our greenhouses that we work to fill with plants for spring; our gardens that produce our vegetables to harvest; and the delicious taste of homegrown food, including the cabbage that we picked today for our family to enjoy Thanksgiving slaw! Most of all, we are thankful for our plant and vegetable customers that have supported us throughout the spring, summer, and fall seasons for the past 22 years. Happy Thanksgiving from our family at Sunnyhill Greenhouses!
