J&S Family Farm

J&S Family Farm We currently raise boer goats with llamas guarding. We also have chickens, ducks, rabbits and seasonally we may have pigs and turkeys for meat purposes.

You have to love surprises on the farm. This little guy made his appearance today! A very strong healthy boy to Pretty Girl. In reviewing the goat gestation chart she would have been bred around 11/20. We put her and other goat mamas in the maternity ward because the cold weather was coming in and we had already had 2 does have kids. 4 months later no kids born and weather warming up so we turned them all out. I guess we will see what other surprises come to us!

Garden season leads to canning season. Which I love way more than gardening. (weeds is the reason I do not like garden season). We have procesed the following so far:
-24 qrts Tomato juice
- 9 pts- dill pickles
- 6 pts - bread/butter pickles
-10 pints salsa
56 bags of freezer corn
17 jelly jars- peach jam
Froze peaches and apples
19 qrts applesauce
101 qrts- grape juice
40 qrts- potatoes
21 qrts - green beans
40 pts- green beans

We still have red potatoes in the ground and some more apples. I think we will be good for the winter.

(Hopefully we will get to can deer meat in the fall )
Needless to say we have used about every jar in this house!
If you have not canned you should do it! You will love it.
