The farm got a new much needed toy!! No more plucking by hand. Does chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese. If you have never plucked by hand believe me when I say this will save hours and do a much better job.

Today Ester had her twins. A little boy and a little girl!! The little boy is now Bullseye and the little girl is Blossom!! That makes 3 little baby goats this week on the farm. Ester has taken in listless Miss Bailey as one of her own so she can be with them and no longer by herself. Once these babies are old enough the will be open for new homes!! Hope to have them outside playing this weekend when temps are much warmer!

Had some emergency therapy I need today and spent it with Bailey and Ester all day in the barn just to sort my head out and help with healing. Yes animals can sense when their human is hurting and they become very loving. And caring for you as if your their baby.

So the day after we left our goat Delilah, who I thought would make it thru the weekend no problems (as it was her first baby) gave birth Friday night into Saturday morning. Unfortunately she would not allow the baby to nurse from her as I wasn’t here to push that. But Jt did an amazing job and got colostrum in her and had been feeding her everyday!! As soon as we got home we had to go out and see her. Jt did not know the s*x but it’s a girl and Jim just named her Bailey.

Finally got our pig back from butcher Thursday and what a sight to see a car full of meat. We requested all the lard from our pig and since pick up I’ve been chopping it all up to render down for lard!! End results 26 jars of shelf stable lard!!

Well, I am delivering the last of our pigs to the butcher this morning. That marks the end of our existing pig business. We will start fresh again at some point in the near future, new system, better results. A little bitter sweet as that was the first BIG step for our little farm- but now we will focus those funds and that energy to making other systems more efficient and thus more stable. Today the hubby and I walk thru out our pastures foraging for fresh wild black raspberries. They are so delicious and can’t wait to make up some jam once they are all done for the season, and the blackberries are next!! Gotta love when nature provides for us and we make sure the birds get their shares as well!

I think I figured it out. I have often times referred to our place as a "hobby farm"....and perhaps that is how I treat...

I think I figured it out. I have often times referred to our place as a "hobby farm"....and perhaps that is how I treated it- as a hobby. This is a Farmstead- a homestead ran as a business. These last several days- we treated this as a business. We went to work @ 6 in the morning, took scheduled 15 min breaks, a scheduled lunch and clocked out at 6pm to cook and eat dinner before end of day chores. I loved it- fit my type A personality perfectly.

No more looking back- moving forward folks!!!!

New babies we are adding to our flock this year!! Some more light Brahmas, a few Speckles Suss*x, Blue laced red wyandot...

New babies we are adding to our flock this year!! Some more light Brahmas, a few Speckles Suss*x, Blue laced red wyandottes, red bourbon turkeys, and some more Pekin ducks!! Can’t wait to watch them grow with all the other baby birds we have hatched this year!
