Hey everyone, Ferg here! For me, America’s 250th anniversary is a reminder that this country was built by people willing to take risks, work hard, and build something of their own. As the owner of Ferg’s Fabulous Fungi, I get to live that opportunity every day.

I’m proud that I can grow food on my family’s land, create products with my own hands, employ people in my community, and contribute to the local economy. The freedom to start a business, fail, learn, and keep improving is something I don’t take for granted.

Running an independent business, let alone a mushroom farm, isn’t easy. There are regulations, rising costs, long hours, and constant uncertainty. But that’s also what makes success meaningful. Every customer who chooses our mushrooms is supporting not just a product, but a local family, local agriculture, and the entrepreneurial spirit that has helped define America for 250 years.

As we celebrate this milestone, I’m grateful for the opportunity to build something that I hope lasts beyond my own lifetime. What began as a middle school science project has grown into a business that I’m proud to call my own. My goal isn’t just to grow mushrooms… it’s to build a company that creates jobs, supports local farms and restaurants, encourages people to cook with real food, and inspires the next generation of entrepreneurs to pursue their own ideas, just as I did years ago.

To me, America at 250 is about independence, innovation, and leaving things better than you found them. That’s what we strive to do every day at Ferg’s Fabulous Fungi. Happy 4th!
