Do you want to know our SECRET to gardening with hardly any input? Here it is. We let nature plant the seeds for us. Thats it.

This year has really outdone itself with over 40 voluntary plots.

How do we do it? Our pigs enjoy pumpkins, squash and gourds all fall for their natural dewormer (thank you cucurbitin!). Some seeds make their way into our soil. The pigs naturally spread their own manure on the soil all winter. Come Spring, I move the pigs off the winter paddock and I find the voluntary sprouts. We allow that paddock to rest (no hooves on it) and grow a beautiful crop of pumpkins, squash & gourds for the next Fall on the well nourished soil.

Our shelters were *extra insulated* this weekend! By the end of Blizzard Elsa we were able to clear the driveway & rooftops, and even make time to play in this thick blanket of snow.

When you say "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole bag of carrots" …then the pigs literally try to eat the bag. 😅👩🏼‍🌾Oh yeah, didn't you know? Pasture Pigs love their veggies! Purple & yellow beets and carrots are their seasonal favorite now. 🫜🥕

Reba gave birth to a BULL calf! Gentry is a hearty boy and very smart! After testing the pasture fencelines a few times (& giving me a good run for my money trying to halter him) he's learning to stay close to mama's side for safety. Gentry's half sister Margaret and the baby piglets love him too. One growing, happy family!

Farming has seasons. For some, the seasons are "stressful season" and "wet & stressful season." For me, the beauty of a season is the promise of better days ahead. Earlier this year, while enjoying a perfect Spring, I would never have expected to be taking 1st cutting off in July due to rain delays. I also would not have expected to be sold out of beef & pork for all of 2025.

But here is the beauty that lies ahead.

We harvested a great yield of dry bales that didn't get rained on! And we work with the most AMAZING families we grow nutritious food for. They came back for more in unexpected turnout! So with a little patience we will continue to stay on track this season while we plan for 2026.

Silvopasture is sustainable land management practice that integrates trees, forages and grazing animals in a mutually beneficial system. It sequesters more carbon from the soil than traditional pastures and grows wholesome pork for your family.
