GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A family-owned market is closing its doors after struggling with rising costs for more than a year. Christy Umfleet and her family have owned and operated the Town &…

After 40 years of serving our community, we have some very difficult news to share.

Town & Country Meat Market will be closing its doors.

With new ownership of the shopping center and a significant increase in the cost of staying in our current location, combined with the rising costs of doing business in today’s economy, we have reached a point where continuing here is simply no longer financially possible. Unfortunately, the cost of relocating and starting over somewhere else is also more than we can take on.

This was definitely not an easy decision. This store has been a huge part of our family’s lives for many years, and we are incredibly thankful for every customer who has walked through our doors, supported us, told their friends about us, and made us part of their family’s meals and traditions.

We don’t want this announcement to be about anger or pointing fingers. Sometimes circumstances change, expenses rise, and a small family business reaches a point where the numbers just don’t work anymore.

We’ll be sharing more information soon about our final days, remaining inventory, and any sales as we work through the closing process. Please just bear with us if you can.

From our family to yours, thank you for all the years of support & friendship. We truly mean that.❤️

We’re 100% aware that when it comes to sausage, everyone has a choice and we respect that.

What tastes best is personal. It’s tradition. It’s what you grew up eating. It’s what your family puts on the table. Nobody is wrong for having a favorite. But we hope you’ll let us tell you why we’re so proud of ours.

At Bass Farm, we’re deeply connected to our brand because we’re deeply connected to what goes into it. Our sausage doesn’t start with a box of meat arriving at our door. It starts with livestock, NC livestock. From there, we stay involved in the process because we believe that if our family name is going on the package, we should know exactly what went into it.

We’ve devoted a lot of years, a lot of long days, and a whole lot of passion to making a sausage we’re genuinely proud to put our name on. We don’t believe in cutting corners. We believe in doing things the right way and making a premium product we’d be proud to serve at our own table.

And if you’ve read this far, thank you. Seriously. It tells us you probably appreciate good sausage too; whatever brand happens to be your favorite.

But if you’ve never tried Bass Farm, we sure hope you will…Because we’re mighty proud of it.
