Food and beverage facilities can expose electrical infrastructure to more than one demanding condition: routine washdown, moisture, sanitation chemicals, acidic ingredients, and brines.

Stainless steel conduit and fittings help protect wiring in these areas, providing durable raceway systems that hold up where standard materials may not.

When facilities are designed without input from the crews who actually clean them, invisible structural liabilities are locked into place. Inaccessible overheads, dead-end piping, and areas with poor drainage quickly become breeding grounds for bacteria.

True sanitary design goes beyond choosing stainless steel. It requires mapping out the daily realities of deep cleaning, washdowns, and maintenance before the layout is locked in.

Involve your sanitation experts during the early engineering phase to eliminate hidden trap points, save labor hours, and better protect compliance from day one.

In areas where food safety is a concern, hygienic design extends beyond the processing equipment itself.

Electrical conduit, fittings and supports can run above production lines, behind equipment and through areas that are harder to inspect. Design choices that reduce unnecessary joints, ledges and difficult-to-access areas can help support cleaner, more inspectable facilities.

Distance from the shoreline isn’t the only factor in coastal corrosion. Wind, terrain, moisture, and site conditions can all influence how far chlorides travel and where they accumulate.

Our latest blog explores what that means for evaluating corrosion risk and selecting materials.

Support hardware is exposed to the same conditions as the conduit it supports.

Using Type 316 stainless steel conduit hangers helps extend corrosion resistance beyond the conduit itself and into the supporting components of the installation.

Our conduit hangers are available in sizes 1/2" through 4" for supporting rigid conduit in demanding environments.

Saltwater, chlorides, and moisture are common concerns in coastal and marine environments.

But the location of the installation can be just as challenging. Remote or difficult-to-access systems can make routine maintenance, repairs, and replacement more complicated.

The difference in thread geometry is intentional.

Rigid stainless steel conduit uses tapered NPT threads, while couplings use straight NPS threads. As the conduit is tightened into the coupling, the tapered thread progressively engages the straight thread, creating a wrench-tight, electrically continuous connection.

The connection is not designed to be liquid-tight. This allows condensation to drain rather than become trapped inside the raceway.

It is a small engineering detail that helps manage moisture, reduce corrosion risk, and support long-term system performance.
