We’ve had some questions about how we build beds on our farm so we thought we’d share a little step by step video to help explain. Farmer Eli explains how we flip our crops in a no-till market garden style system. Yes we could use implements and heavier equipment but this is what works for us. We were able to harvest, cut out, amend, flip, and plant a new crop all in about 3hrs this morning with four people. What a pleasure it is to work with our hands and build this soil! The plants love it too.

🥲 life of an organic farmer. While harvesting greenery today I stuck my arm into a bush and brushed against this Saddleback Caterpilar and omg the immediate pain that shot through my arm!!! I thought it was a spider at first because the bush was also covered in spiders but then Eli helped search and discovered this little guy hiding under a leaf. We took him into the woods and left him there far away from our cutting shrubs! 😤 If you see them out in the wild or in your yard DO NOT TOUCH THEM their venom is a neurotoxin that will leave you with burning pain, a rash, and nausea all of which I experienced this morning. Glad it was me and not one of the kiddos.

We built this whole farm by hand, one pull of the broadfork tines, one bucket of soil at a time. We seed, plant, harvest, and arrange everything by hand. Everything we do from the plants we select to the blooms we harvest and place lovingly into your bouquets is intentional and artful in its own right. Doing this work in such a time of turmoil feels silly some days and important most others. It’s hard to not focus on our little pocket, our corner of our county and call the work done. But one thing about farming is the work is never done. Even when it’s hot and humid and you want to burn it all to the ground there are things depending on you to keep going and hopefully some people too. Anyways, here’s a little peek behind the curtain of what things are like around here this hot hot month of August 2026.

It gets scarier the farther you scroll 👻 Thank a farmer this week, it’s mid August and we are beyond burnt out.
