“For this event, the starting point was really the landscape surrounding the space, as well as the tabletop items and linens. The tables were set against this soft, open backdrop, and we wanted everything on the table to feel like a continuation of that, rather than
something placed on top of it.

Nasturtiums felt like the natural choice because they already grow in that loose, wandering way. There’s a softness to the stems and a slight irregularity in their movement, which helped avoid anything feeling too arranged.”

- Amanda Ernst of

Our conversation with Amanda continues in the newest issue of FIELD NOTES, available now for download! You’ll also find a comprehensive growing guide, deep dives with more of your favorite designers on how they use nasturtiums in their design process, and even a recipe - featuring nasturtiums! All of this and more at the link in bio 🧚🏻‍♀️

When we started our flower farm in the Hudson Valley three years ago, I knew with absolute certainty that I wanted to grow specialty flowers for floral designers. Specifically, I wanted to grow all the rare, hard-to-find, sometimes fussy, but always achingly beautiful textural elements that local designers were looking for - the missing piece they called “the something special” that elevated their designs into something truly extraordinary.

Cultivating these treasures has become my passion - sourcing the plants and seeds, observing them in the field, adjusting to their wants and needs, and seeing them transformed, into art. As I honed in on my love for the novel, I became concerned with how I could effectively share everything I’d learned and also shine a spotlight on the deeply creative partnerships that form between grower and designer. How did I grow these things and just as importantly, how were they used?

This journal is an attempt to answer these questions, and the first issue, my love letter to chocolate cosmos, includes a comprehensive growing guide, thoughtful conversations with magic-makers and .studio, and so, so much more. This first issue will be yours to download as a free digital copy, an invitation into the world of the unique flowers and everyday magic of our farm. And if you love what you see, you can choose to subscribe and join us as we gather research for the next treasure hunt. In the meantime, make sure to sign up for our mailing list at the bottom of our homepage, and we’ll send a note as soon as it’s out. I hope you will, and thanks for reading!

Possibly the most magical moment of my life seeing Groombridge Place during golden hour. We were greeted by lots of very friendly sheep but sadly, Lizzie and the Bennets were not at home.
