Yesterday, I separated a few birds to decide who would be making the trip to the Love of Feathers show. I had entered two of my white girls, one of whom was shown last year at the Classic Yellow Rose as a pullet.

Looking at them this morning with a more critical eye, I’m leaning toward pulling both of them from the lineup. 😩

Don’t get me wrong… these girls are absolutely gorgeous! 🤍 But one thing I’ve learned is that being beautiful isn’t the only thing that matters when preparing for a show. You have to look at the whole bird, including feather condition.

Their wings just aren’t as full as I’d like them to be right now. I want to see more fullness and better feather condition before putting them in the show pen. Even though I love these girls, I have to be honest with myself about whether they’re ready to compete.

I’m still heading to Love of Feathers with some of my other color varieties, so I’m excited about that! But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed about leaving these two beautiful ladies behind.

I’m not the jealous type… but this little jerk has been MIA for TWO DAYS. 😭 I’ve been sick with worry because he ALWAYS comes home for bedtime. Of course, he lost his GPS collar right before deciding to go on his little adventure.
Finally, he comes home… and immediately snuggles up with the husband.
I’m not jealous at all. Not even a little bit. 😒

Excited to finally start fixing the garden. The plan is to prepare the soil in the beds, I’m adding a layer of wood chips and covering with a tarp over winter. We have horrible clay soil. I am also wanting to start a compost pile that feeds the garden and a watering system. Let’s see how much i get done today. Started slow with oversleeping 😅
