Hops & Chops Homestead Small rabbitry in Michigan with big attitude and even bigger purpose. Follow along as we build something real with love, grit, and a touch of sass. 🐇🌿✨

We’re just beginning our rabbit journey — learning, growing, and thumping forward one hop at a time. Welcome to Hops & Chops Homestead — where the rabbits are sassy, the chores are daily, and the homestead life is the goal little by little. We’re a small Michigan-based rabbitry raising beautiful, bold bunnies with purpose. Whether they’re hopping through the pasture or filling our freezer with gra

titude, our rabbits are raised with care, respect, and a bit of attitude. We believe in good food, clean pens, and stars that shine. 💫

The piggies got their new house today, a calf hutch! They are getting so big so fast it was time to get then a bigger shelter.

They were a little unsure at first, but after some sniffing, rooting, and piggy investigations, I think it’s officially approved.

Cuddle time!

🐰 Foster Baby Update 🤍

The little foster baby is still hanging in there and doing pretty alright overall 🥹

It’s still a bit skinny, so we’re continuing to support with supplemental formula feedings, but there’s been some encouraging progress:
✨ eyes are now open
✨ moving around really well
✨ staying warm and active

Tiny babies can be such a rollercoaster, but this little one is definitely trying ❤️

We’ll keep supporting and cheering the little thing on.

🌾 Things Homesteading Didn’t Prepare Us For – Pig Edition 🐷😂

Nobody warned us that pigs are basically giant emotional toddlers with built-in alarm clocks.

Dinner time is SERIOUS business around here.
And if you’re even one minute late?
Oh… they will absolutely let you know 😅

We’ve learned:
🐷 pigs somehow always know when food is coming
🐷 mud puddles are apparently the greatest invention of all time
🐷 they blow bubbles in the mud when they’re happy 😂
🐷 they will try to taste-test basically everything… including rocks
🐷 and they have WAY more personality than we ever expected

We also weren’t prepared for how smart they are.

They learn routines fast.
They recognize people.
And somehow they manage to be chaotic, hilarious, and lovable all at the same time.

Honestly?
We started pigs thinking they’d just be another homestead animal…

Instead they became tiny muddy comedians with opinions 🐷🤍

On hot days we have to remember they are hot too.

Whopper absolutely loves the water puddle we gave the pigs! ❤️

Lots of little babies around the homestead lately 🐣🤍

The last batch of baby quail are currently hanging out in our homemade brooder. We’ve loved watching these tiny fluff balls grow, learn, and zoom around — but we’re definitely looking forward to the day they can move outside into the coop and have a little more room to explore.
And if you look closely… 👀

You might spy a few little turkey poults hanging out up top too.

Safe to say the homestead is FULL of tiny peeps and chaos right now 😅🐥

The little foster baby is faring incredibly well. Thanks to Snow White and a bit of supplemental feeding from us.

We are still keeping a careful eye on the baby but right now it's reveling in the warm cuddles of its adopted siblings. ❤️

These monster babies are the first babies to come from our big bunny Mr. Mayo. They are bigger than the other babies born the same day.

I am very excited to see how they grow out. ☺️

Not every part of raising animals is easy. 🤍

Sometimes despite full nests, attentive moms, and doing everything you can… a tiny one still doesn’t make it.

This little one was the runt of the litter, and while we don’t know exactly what happened, sometimes nature is simply hard. Mom may have accidentally laid on it, or there may have been underlying issues from the start.

Homesteading has taught us that life and loss often exist side by side.

Just a few feet away from this moment are warm nests full of healthy babies growing stronger every day. And while the losses hurt, they also make us appreciate the thriving babies and good moms even more.

We share the cute moments often, but we think it’s important to share the hard moments too — because this life is beautiful, but it’s also real.

These lop and New Zealand mix babies are sooo cute. They are fluffing out so nicely!
