Cooler temperatures next week finally! So come out when you can between rain showers. What a busy week this was! We hosted GMS students to pick berries and learn about bees. We had a family reunion and spent some time with the new babies and sheep. There are still plenty of blueberries out there to pick though you may have to pull some taller branches down. Middle schoolers tend to pick low hanging fruit. And there are some trays of blackberries in the cooler while they last. I'm sold out of quart jars of honey at the moment, but there are plenty of 24oz bears or smaller sized jars too, along with bees wax products. Dawn to dark hours so come and go at your own convenience. We take Venmo, PayPal, check or cash. No appointment needed.

We are open for summer🫐🍯. After returning from our trip, I checked bee hives and they are looking good. I've got honey bears available again! Some now and hopefully more later in the summer too. Blueberries are in various stages of ripening. There's plenty to pick if you walk through the middle and around the back of the blueberry bushes. I haven't hung up my U-pick sign yet because the berries at the front are still green for some reason. Just browse around and you will find a bucket full of blue. We charge $10 per gallon for U-pick. Or if it's too hot to pick, check our coolers out. I have trays of prepicked blueberries and mixed berries for $7. In the freezer a gallon of frozen blueberries is $25. Out on the table you will find various bee products such as beeswax, candles, soap and small jars of honey. We are open dawn to dark, any day, through June. Just drive out and make yourself at home!

I have lots of people asking about blackberries, so here's the update: We will have some, but not enough to offer for U-pick this year. We planted several rows of new plants last year counting on the usual spring rains to grow the plants to production size by summer. But as you know we had extreme drought all spring, so berries are not plentiful. I will only have enough to offer small trays in the cooler. Not gallons at a time, as in years past. I know my jam making customers are disappointed by that! I am too, but the life of farming is dictated by Mother Nature. The rains have returned however, and the plants are off and growing at last, so next year I expect us to be back up to good production. Blueberries are also not as plentiful as usual, however, we do have u-pick for those. We lost about half our crop to the late March freeze, but half of 300 plants is STILL a lot of blueberries! Be sure you get some in June. Many people who rely on their own little bushes are reporting total losses and coming here to stock up, so they may go fast. And peaches were a total loss to the March freeze. I will post later in the summer. We do expect muscadine, figs, lemons, and honey.

May update: celebrating graduation with family this weekend. Planning to open for the season May 30th. As you can see berries aren't quite ripe yet, but usually by the first week of June they are plentiful. Mother Nature has thrown us some curveballs this spring, so I'll post another update May 29th. Thank you to Mrs. Bolen of Moonrooted Acres for providing the strawberry buckets I was looking for! By next year I can offer those along with some other fruits we've added. Come out this summer to see how we have grown!

For years I've struggled with strawberries! I've tried raised beds, pots, and plastic rows. I had better luck growing weeds and bugs, nothing fit for customers. This year with help from Mrs. Betty McQueen, we've had some success! Good size, great taste, now all I need to do is grow enough of them. These big red containers seemed to do the trick. I'd like to get a whole lot more. Anyone know where to find an affordable source?

April showers where have you been? The berries are still small and green for now. So as you can see we are a few weeks away from being ripe and ready. Opening Day will be May 30th this year! Mark your calendars and come on out. The first week of June is usually the peak season for the berries, so don't put it off too long into the summer or they'll all be gone. A special thank you to Mrs. Jones for allowing me to speak to her class about beekeeping! I enjoyed being back in front of a class of eager young learners❤️

It's that time! Time to let them grow up and join the pack. Last bottle feeding for these two babies. And my last REAL baby graduates in a few weeks too. Life has its seasons! May will be busy with activity and a family senior trip but I will post pictures soon of the fruit and where things stand for summer opening in June!

April update: All is going well! The bees have multiplied and started storing honey. The flowers have turned into small green berries. Blackberry plants have started to bloom. The baby goats performed well for the professional photography session! We loved collaborating with Joseph Longmire for a fun Easter photo shoot. He does beautiful work! Use him for your senior graduate or other memorable events.

Meanwhile at the Perch, lambing season has begun. We have 5 new babies including this preemie baby "Dot" who is SO tiny! At the farm the bees have settled down and found the blueberry flowers. The last freeze did a number on the berries, so our harvest for the year remains to be seen. But I'm hopeful now that the bees are back to work.
