Where are our summer red w**e enthusiasts? This one’s for you! New to our tasting room menu this season is our Springhouse 2022, a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Tannat. It’s a very approachable red blend with a balanced structure. Springhouse ‘22 is perfect for toasty summer evenings and for peak cobbler season. (The w**e’s ripe red fruit notes paired particularly well with this delicious cobbler from !)

Guess the w**e!

By now, many of our patrons have noticed that we enjoy naming our w**es after historic spots on our property. Our most recent post, for example, featured our latest vintage of Summer Kitchen Rosé. While the composition of our namesake w**es may evolve from one vintage to the next, each w**e remains faithful to its defining tenets of structure, body, aromatic character, and flavor profile.

This week, we’d love to see who can correctly guess our featured w**e. Over the years, its composition has varied but has always led with Merlot. Different vintages have been described as having:

“a front palate of plum jam that fades into the warmth of tabacco leaf and forest floor”

“bright red fruit notes and smoky tones, with an expressive palate”

“notes of dried cranberries, black cherry, anise and leathery aromatics with mild tannins”

So, do you think you know which Septenary w**e we’re describing? Comment your guesses, and we’ll reveal the answer Sunday night!

In our tasting room, we recently transitioned from pouring our 2024 Summer Kitchen Rosé to the 2025 vintage. Have you tried it yet? Our latest rosé is bright, crisp, and dry, and made from Merlot. This w**e sings with fruit forward notes of strawberry and watermelon rind. Perfect for summer picnics and cookouts!

As we celebrate 250 years of America, it feels special to raise a glass from Jefferson’s Monticello AVA — a place where history and w**emaking come together! 🇺🇸🍷

Our w**ery is situated on Seven Oaks Farm, which made a name for itself in the 1700s (then, as “Cloverplains”) with the opening of one of Virginia’s first taverns. Thomas Jefferson, himself, was in fact a frequent visitor of the tavern and spent a good many times traveling back and forth from Monticello to our grounds!

The farm was later renamed for the seven white oak trees that once stood proudly on the south lawn of the manor home. Though six trees were sadly destroyed by Hurricane Hazel, the tree still standing here today is fittingly the oak that had been named for Mr. Jefferson.

On our nation’s semiquincentennial, cheers to the generations who came before us, the community we share today, and the future we’re building together. Happy 4th of July Weekend from all of us at Septenary! 🥂
