Join us at Dunham Farm . Velvet Hollow Sugar Works, one of six participating farms and artists for this year's Art and Agriculture Tour! All the farms have something different to offer! 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You can purchase your $20/carload ticket (map with all the details about the event) at the Bethel Chamber or any of the farms on the tour, including the day of the tour. Dunham Farm will have tickets for sale at the Greenwood Farmers' Market on Friday, Sept. 4. Dunham Farm . Velvet Hollow Sugar Works will be offering our BBQ Maple Turkey Chili and cornbread, and a vegan choice as well. We will have maple syrup for sale and gluten-free baked goods, granola, pancake mix, Sweet and Zesty Zucchini Relish, plus other items. Hike to the top of Christopher Mountain - there's a little color starting in the hills, or just sit and relax! See how maple syrup is made! We have indoor and outdoor dining, restroom.

Captain Bill uses a blend of wood carving, pyrography, and custom painting to creade unique wooden displays, and fish decoys with reclaimed wood. Demo throughout the day

Carina Walter of Naturally Maine Skincare, is a Master Herbalist, and ecotherapy practioner who has been creating natural products for people and pets since 1981.

I am happy to report that a few of the birds I thought did not nest here this season are here: Scarlet tanager, gray catbird, hermit thrush (it is just deeper in the woods than it normally is here, pictured with post). I haven't heard the wood thrush, which usually nest here. The phoebes have fledged today. We weren't using our hotwater beacuse they made the nest on our on-demand propane hotwater heater exhaust!

A few pics from our mini getaway this week in Scarborough. We were thrilled to see piping plover parents and their chicks. We didn't get close enough to get good photos of the chicks, just one of the adults. We enjoyed a dinner at the Saltwater Grille in South Portland. I've never seen Portland from across the water. The restaurant has a beautiful deck area overlooking the marina. The food was delicious.

It's been a jackpot morning for returning migrating birds here at Dunham Farm. So far: Black and White Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Northern Parula, Yellow-rumped Warbler. Merlin also showed Magnolia Warbler but with a red ' questionable' indicator. They do migrate to Maine and favor the kinds of trees we have on our land (spruce and dense young mixed forests). Pictured here is a male Northern Parula (not my photo). That's all for now!
