Happy 4th from our farm family to yours! Donkey boy is our 4th of July mascot for a number of reasons the biggest one being it’s his anniversary! 12 years ago today I went and got him outta a cow pasture largely unhandled to be a companion for my mustang who I had just moved home. We trailered home in holiday traffic while he made all the donkey sounds at every single stop light to my mortification and the hilarity of the fellow humans also stuck in July traffic 🤦🏼‍♀️🥴😂 after praying LOUDLY that he wouldn’t go through my electric fence I released him to make friends with Storm and they quickly became inseparable. The herd has grown since then but these two continue to special bond 12yrs in the making.

It’s hot! Fortunately these ladies (and gentlemen) know how to stay hydrated and momma knows how to trick them into drinking a little extra with some “interesting” looking water sources IE extra cheap plant saucers from the garden 🤣
Why are these so inviting when their normal waterers are just as fresh and cool?? Who knows but it works every time to get a big ol drink into all of them.

Happy Tuesday! After the drama of last week with struggling grow outs and chickens choosing su***de by husky dog I’ve vowed to have a calm and peaceful week. Fortunately it would appear the farm is on board with that plan; and today we’ve had gloriously cool weather with a warm afternoon and a breezy cooler evening which all of the animals are enjoying thoroughly. The bunny grow outs are on the mend, back to eating everything in sight and handling the warm days much better. We’ve got some new strategies to help protect the chickens from themselves and the 5 new pullets are handling the move to the big coop like champs. Me and the big man got a nice long walk down the road which we both desperately needed. Those of us with horses at home know that ironically, fitting in time for actual riding between the day to day chores can be a challenge. Hopefully all of your weeks have found a peaceful rhythm to them so far and here’s to Wednesday continuing the trend!!
