Can’t steal My Joy! I got to put another clutch of eggs in the incubator! The broody duo decided the move to maternity and 4 eggs each was way too much to handle! The broodiness is over for now!

Chicken subtraction is so sad! The next morning is always too quiet… the remaining birds are subdued and extra cautious, no little chirps to greet you. Lots of little pecks at my feet and legs from near point of lay girls needing comfort.
The littles were playing in tall grass pasture with watchful resident rooster, adolescent roos in training, farm dog and cats keeping track of everyone. The new hideout was working when the aerial predator call was sounded.
The flip side of chicken math.

Joy is sometimes hard to find. We went to town today to do Friday errands. Came home to a quiet yard. Too quiet. Dead quiet. 20 littles gone…in the middle of the day….pieces parts of some in the yard. Not sure who or what had chicken nuggets for lunch.
The FFA pullets are ok, the OG hens are ok. The Opal and Cream Legbars are ok. The abundant rooster pen is ok. We will be ok. Damn, Today was hard!

Another. Recycle. re use project complete. The littles have a new summer house. Hubby added yucky old pallets around 3 sides, it now looks pretty trashy but the littles love playing up and around and through!
