Vessel Safety Checks at Pier Park this Saturday!

Grosse Pointe Farms Boat Club, in partnership with the Power Squadron, is happy to announce free Vessel Safety Checks happening this Saturday, June 6, from 10 AM to 3 PM at Pier Park.

This is open to all boat owners with a vessel docked at Pier Park. It's a great way to promote boater safety and make sure your boat meets the standards and specifications of the US Coast Guard, which could help you avoid a costly ticket out on the water.

No registration needed. Just head down to the info table near the community building (near the outdoor restrooms ) and flag down a Grosse Pointe Power Squadron member. They'll take it from there.

Hope to see you on Saturday!

šŸ“¢ Heads up from a fellow member!

One of our own passed along this interesting news for anyone heading out on Lake St. Clair or beyond this season: the U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes District has begun deploying autonomous sail drones on the Great Lakes from May through October.

These wind- and solar-powered unmanned vessels are being used for maritime monitoring, weather data collection, and border safety. They're described as highly visible and are equipped with radar, cameras, and collision-avoidance technology — and are monitored continuously by human operators.

So if you spot what looks like an unusual uncrewed sailboat out on the water, don't be alarmed — it's the Coast Guard keeping watch! āš“

Safe and happy boating, everyone! 🌊

Leveraging a contract awarded by the Coast Guard to enhance maritime domain awareness, the Great Lakes District will deploy autonomous drones to support Coast Guard missions on the Great Lakes.
