The rows are all ready in my North Garden for my cool crop planting. With the rain forecast for this weekend it's the perfect time to get them in. I have decided that I don't have enough to do so why not expand the vegetable garden into another whole area 🤦♀. I am actually experimenting this year with a cool weather crop and warm weather crop garden. I want to rotate the cows through each. As cool weather crops like broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, kale etc... like to be planted early and are done by mid summer, I can rotate the cows through and do a second planting in late summer for a fall harvest. The warm weather garden can have the cows in it until June. They are great at fertilization and w**d control in the early spring. If I mixed in warm weather crops like tomatoes, peppers and watermelon with the cool weather crops I couldn't do that. So now we have a north and a south garden. I hope this works! Every year I learn more and more about how to grow market garden vegetables. I have taken classes and read books but going out there and seeing what works for your land is the best way to learn. If you are hesitant about starting your own vegetable garden, don't be. Failure is the best teacher. Don't be afraid to fail. I fail all the time.. ask my zucchini plants last year 🥲.
Come by the farm this weekend. Grab some bread, beef and asparagus and wave to me as I brave the rain and plant my cruciferous veggies.
