It is with great sadness that I write this post today. After many long and hard discussions between JT and I over these last 5 months, we have decided to disperse Dad's Suffolk flock.
Dad loved his Suffolks way before I ever came into the picture! With JT responsible for 2 separate farms, me working full time, raising 4 children and trying to successfully breed club calves and lambs, we just don't feel we can pour our heart and soul into the Suffolk flock the way Dad did.
That being said, every time Dad bought a new piece to add to the club lamb flock, he always told us he was investing in the future. He knew, and we all talked about, that one day the Suffolk flock would be nonexistent. We feel now is the time. The handful of ewes that are still in the flock are going to a family very near and dear to us.
We will be selling the final 2 Suffolk pieces on Saturday, June 5 at the WV Purebreed Sheep Breeders Sale. Consignment will include a Suffolk yearling ram that Dad held onto for this sale and the best Suffolk ewe lamb out of the spring crop.
We know this is the first step into our future as sheep breeders. We will be retiring the Sponaugle Suffolks name and all our ventures will now be under the name Begoon Farm. Thanks to all the many supporters of Dad's program over the past 40+ years, we hope to continue to raise quality sheep just as he did!
