Talk about an interesting season coming to an end. Made MANY mistakes this year spooking deer out or rushing situations to cost myself opportunities. Shot two of the smaller deer I have ever shot. That all being said, I was able to take my first deer with my grandfather's Marlin .35 Thanksgiving week. My father took a big doe the weekend after Thanksgiving. This past Tuesday, first day in the woods with my new muzzleloader and I was able to take a 2nd deer. We have worked real hard to get the freezer close to where it should be for the year and have plenty of memories from the season.
The first deer this year was a successful two person stalk on a bedded deer in a swamp and this deer was a success two person mini drive. 18 years hunting with my father, we make mistakes and may not always shoot wall hangers, but we certainly know how to fill freezers. Few more days to close out the season here in NY.

Parked at the end of a road by a walking path at Sonyea this evening. My father saw a truck driving down the walking path (I have no idea how they got there) and we heard them spinning tires. Came out of the woods to this because apparently someone thought I was parked too close to the walking path they shouldn't have even been driving on. I always take extra time to make sure I am parked where nobody else should be impacted by it, and yet I come back to this. This is why people shy away from public land.

As I stood next to a tree on some public earlier, I had a doe come up over the ridge just as the wind swirled and as soon as I saw her, she was gone. It reminded me of this great quote by the legendary Clay Newcomb.

And I was right! Neighbor shot this deer today and he grossed 157"

NY doesn't have 150" deer? I could probably argue that point..
