This time of year some of my hens get the maternal bug and you never know where they'll end up. This particular hen is nesting on the hay bales under the barn. I've got five hens currently stationed around the barn in top-secret locations setting on eggs. I'm just hoping that no raccoons or foxes get the bright idea to turn them into an all-you-can-eat buffet.

On today's episode of we lay eggs wherever we darn well please instead of the fancy nesting boxes…… yes folks that is a giant mess of vines and leaves in the road ditch. We tidied it up when we cleared the fence and the girls have declared it prime egg-laying real estate. 🤦🏼‍♀️We'll be turning these babies into scrambled eggs and feeding them back to the girls - because that's what we do with eggs that are too old to be of use, and honestly, it's just a fun little nutritious snack for the girls.

Did a little exploring and found out that the girls found a new hiding spot for their eggs. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Don’t worry these won’t be packaged to be sold. Now I know I have to climb on the round bales of hay stacked in the barn daily to check for eggs.

Spring's arrival is near, and today's weather was a perfect illustration of this. The girls are enjoying the pretty weather and extended daylight. Check out the basket of eggs we gathered today.
