Gruver, did ya know…
Today, Saturday, Aug 16 will be your community rodeo which is always a fun time! A lot of work goes into this weekend & this year is a little extra special.
This year, 2 extraordinary guys will be recognized; Buster Davis & Kyle Jackson. Two men who meant a lot to Hansford county & their rodeo.
Buster was a roper in his younger days, he always had a love for horses & the cowboy life, finally hanging up his spurs to be a banker years ago. But you don’t just lose that love. Buster was on the rodeo committee for years keeping everyone straight on things at the arena.
Last year when they figured out they weren’t going to have enough pulled pork on Sunday, he pulled some out of his freezer and donated it, not allowing anyone to pay him back for it.
Kyle J was once buckled the chute do**in Champion & was proud of that for years to come!! If you were there, you will never forget that smile when he was told he WON but everyone already knew; the crowd has never been louder than when Kyle threw that steer! Not one person not smiling & yelling!
These are the moments that make a small town rodeo everything it is.
Buster & Kyle were two great losses Gruver has suffered this past year. It has been a sad year in our community losing many greats.
Buster & Kyle will be honored & remembered before the performance & chute do**in. Kyle’s parents will crown this years champ. And we will all be thankful to remember 2 great men who are so vastly missed.
I would be remiss to not mention a great woman who loved the life, the animals, many of the contestants, young & old(er) & the rodeo as a whole; Georgia Holt. She graciously lended her tractor for years to help prepare the ground. The Holts replaced the old wooden stands with the metal purlins that are there today.
It is hard for me to imagine an event at the Hansford county arena without Georgia in the stands.
So come, enjoy with family & friends & my goodness, don’t forget your kleenexes!
