2nd practice in the books, he started out a little rough and frustrated but finally found his groove! I am so proud of how far Cross and Sue have came in only 2 practices!! This kid has big dreams and he’s determined to get there!! We are so thankful for the Lancaster’s and all their help, Cross wouldn’t be where he is already without y’all!
This is only Sue’s 2nd time in the arena and on the dummy as well! He’s had only a handful roped off of him before this adventure 💙

One of my biggest pet peeves! Please take the tone to take their halter off!! Something so simple as not taking it off can kill them in an instant!

Take the Halters OFF.

This has been said before, but it is so important that it needs being said again.

In regards to your horses, one of the most dangerous ( and deadly ) things that can happen is leaving the halter on your horse. This is because it is easy for the halter to get caught on something like a tree branch, T-Post, gate latch, getting a back foot caught in it, etc . When it does, the horse will panic and could very easily break it's neck trying to get loose. I understand that many of you will say that your horse has worn it's halter for years and never gotten hurt. You have been luck "so far". There are many horses that wore their halter for years until the time that they got it caught on something and broke their neck.

I also understand that many of you will say that you can't catch your horse without it wearing the halter. "Yes" you can. If you can get close enough to catch the halter you are close enough to catch the horse without it. Also, for those that say that you board and that it is a rule that every horse wears a halter, then I would be moving your horse. You should care as much about your horse's safety as you do your children's safety. It is depending on you to take care of it. So Take the Halters off

Last, NO using a "breakaway" halter isn't an excuse. They don't always break , so the horse still breaks it's neck, or if it does break, it teaches the horse that if it pulls back that it can break any halter.

You need to remember that your horse is depending on you to do your best to keep it safe, the same as you do for your children. Therefore, their is NO excuse to leave the halter on so, don't try to make one.

A wooden Shepard’s cane(ours is just wrapped in vet wrap since it’s old and starting to splinter) is a wonderful tool for young horses. We use one on all our weanlings to work on picking up their feet, it keeps us safe while teaching them give and take of pressure and making our farriers life easier in the long run.

I’m not going to lie I might have been a little sad to see the salty little cupcake leave today to her new home in Virginia 😔 cross got teary eyed telling her goodbye last night since he would be kn school when she left. It’s bittersweet to see that first horse you start and sell go on but we’re super excited to watch how happy she makes a sweet little girl!
And I pray she gives Rosie the Appy we sold last year 9 kinds of hell!! 😂😂😂

We truly believe GutX from 100X Equine is a foundational building block to our training program

Its not uncommon young horses come to us between growth spurts, needing to better utilize the feed we give them. And many need ulcer support throughout their training time with us.

The changes we see are so substantial in their mental health and their physical health.

This horses photos are 30 days apart. Over 100 lbs difference from arrival to today on nothing but grass hay and a basic horseman’s pellet

Tuesday at Cross’s lessons Diran said something that really stuck with me, something I’ve heard a million times but for some reason the way he worded it it really struck home.
He was helping Cross with his swing and release, Cross was forcing the loop at the release and pushing it(something we had to do in the panhandle winds to get it to the calf 😂), causing the loop to close.
Diran said “God created physics and a thing called inertia, when an object is in motion it stays in motion on the same path until you change its path. When your swinging and you force that loop your changing that loops path and forcing it To close all at the same time. Instead of pushing that loop when your in position just release it, let it go and let God, the physics will get it there just let go and give it to him”
I may have missed a few parts in there but so much can be taken from that simple quote, stop forcing things to happen, stop pushing things that aren’t meant to be, just let it go and let God, have faith that he will get it there. When you give ALL your worries to God, your load will lighten and he will carry your burden, trust in his plan, have faith and you never know what Blessings God has in store for you.
We quit forcing the loop closed and gave it all to God and we are forever grateful that we did!

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

You never know what you’ll find being hauled in the trailer around our outfit 🤣🤣 Grace went in for a weight check and after several near death experiences over the last few months she is finally on the weight gain side of things! 🙌🏼 Cupcake went on for a coggins and her brand before heading to Virginia next week!

I can not watch this enough! This is Cross and Sue’s first time on the dummy and they did amazing!
Sue never bobbled and listened to every little thing Cross asked him to do! No tie down or any training gimmicks, he kept his head down and nose tucked and ready for the next task.
I get asked often what our horses are best suited for when we’re done with them. The best answer i can give is “anything!” we have horses that went on to excel at every thing from team roping, calf roping, barrels and even just ranch work, and some that do all the above! We focus on a soft face that’s responsive and ready, they break at the poll so that it puts their body position correct for the next task, wether it be stopping, pivoting or running to one.
