Only Child Brewing Company is a dream of mine that has been realized over the past 10 years. Throughout that decade we have solidified a place in our community, made connections that will last a lifetime, and have cultivated our own little culture of sharing, bonding, and celebrating the good things in life together.
Over the time since this all began, things as they always do, have changed. Not only with the company growing and relocating, but on a personal level as well. I discovered I’m not even technically an only child anymore! Those of you that know me, know that I was adopted. However, in recent years I have had the privilege of connecting with my biological mother, and in doing so I found that I have a beautiful sister and an amazing brother. Not only did this reshape my life, we all experienced a global pandemic with Covid-19. That is something that reshaped each and every one of our lives, and changed the world as we know it. Only Child made it through the thick of it all thanks to you. The continued support you showed through even the toughest times made me appreciate how special it is, and how fortunate I am, to do what I do. It is a blessing beyond belief to be able to pursue a dream, realize it, share it, and to then have so many wonderful people appreciate it. I cannot thank you enough.
With all of that being said, I am reluctant to inform you that Only Child will be ceasing its brewing and taproom operations, and will be closing the Gurnee location. I have no intentions of walking away from the beer industry. Beer has been everything to me for so long. However, I am focusing on new opportunities, new passions, and looking forward to spending more time with my family.
My long time assistant brewer Harrison is like a kid brother to me. He has been such a loyal, persistent, and positive aspect at Only Child Brewing for so many years. Although He and I will miss being together here at Only Child, I helped to secure him a well deserved new job elsewhere to ensure that my decision did not have a negative impact on his life financially.
Again, I want to thank all of you for the profound impact each of you has had on my life. Thank you all for believing in me, my dream, and helping to make it all a reality. Thank you for enjoying beer. Thank you for having fun. Thank you for coming to Only Child.
We will remain open over the next two months, and our final day of business will be Friday June 24th. Please stop in to see us and enjoy a few more beers together while we all can.
