We’re all about habits that actually work — not just what looks good on a wellness checklist. Here’s what’s really going on behind these small but mighty rituals 👇
1️⃣ Magnesium on feet before bed 💤
Magnesium regulates over 300 enzymatic reactions in your body — everything from muscle recovery to stress hormones. But modern diets and stress can deplete it fast. Applying it topically (especially on the soles of your feet, where pores are largest) bypasses digestion, letting your body absorb it directly into the bloodstream. It helps lower cortisol, relax the nervous system, and signal your brain to produce melatonin — making it easier to fall and stay asleep.
2️⃣ Sauna sessions 🔥
When your body temperature rises, it triggers the same cardiovascular benefits as moderate exercise — increasing heart rate, improving vascular function, and boosting circulation. The heat also increases heat shock proteins, which protect cells from damage and support mitochondrial function (aka energy production). Regular sauna use has been shown in studies to lower inflammation markers, improve recovery, and even reduce risk of cardiovascular disease. Bonus: it supports detoxification by enhancing lymph flow and sweat-mediated elimination.
3️⃣ Nose strips for better sleep 😴
Breathing through your nose filters, humidifies, and optimizes oxygen uptake. Mouth breathing, on the other hand, increases cortisol, dehydrates tissues, and disrupts sleep cycles. Using a nasal dilator or strip helps open your airways, improving nitric oxide production — a molecule that supports vascular health and oxygen delivery to tissues. Translation: more oxygen = deeper rest and better recovery overnight.
4️⃣ Gua sha 🪞
This ancient Chinese practice works by stimulating microcirculation and lymphatic drainage. When you glide the tool across fascia, it increases blood flow, helping oxygen and nutrients reach tissues while removing stagnation. The pressure also activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which calms stress and tension (especially in the jaw, neck, and shoulders). Over time, it can reduce inflammation and even support collagen health by improving nutrient delivery to the skin barrier.
