We are a Christian family raising our daughter to be self-sufficient through gardening, herbal medicines, foraging, raising chickens, canning, and made from scratch food!

Now we have random potato plants popping up in the garden! 😆

I'm assuming these are what's left from the compost from last year. I'm not sure if I want to let them grow where they are or attempt to move them to the potato row.

Decisions, decisions!

We had a little friend hanging out with us yesterday. He was in the stick boma in front of the house.

Of course, my first instinct was to "save" him but I took a second to look it up and apparently he is considered a fledgling and he did not need my intervention. His parents came back later in the day and fed him.

Unfortunately, this morning he is not there but I'm going to think positively, and assume he flew off with his parents or they hid him somewhere safer.

Either way, it was fun watching him for a while!

We gave the girls the grass we dug up putting in our new trees!

They love digging around and eating the grass! Plus, I'm sure there are worms to be had! 🪱

There is always that one chicken. Although, she isn't the problem, it's the others that have started picking on her that are the problem.

She had been largely immobile for a month or so now. She can move around but usually does not. We help her in and out of the coop each day. We've looked her over and can't find anything obvious. She eats, she drinks, she preens etc. She just doesn't move much.

The other chickens had seemed to accept this and were living their lives around her but now they are starting to jump on her and peck at her head and she can't/won't defend herself.

So, rather than bring her inside, we fixed up a small area in the main pen where she can get to food and water and have some shade. I'm not sure how long she will be with us, but she certainly deserves to be happy and protected while she is. ❤️

Yep, our chickens are pets and we treat them as such! Sorry, not sorry!

As I'm reading through Matthew, this note from my grandmother really stuck out!

I started praying this exact thing months ago, and let me tell you, it brings a sense of peace. Not my will, God, but yours!

Anytime I pray for myself or someone else, I pray for God's will because His way is the only way! He knows what we need. He knows what He has planned for our lives. As our pastor once said, God doesn't need our opinions. 😀 He's got this!

So, always, Lord, let your will be done! ❤️

30 pounds of chicken was divided into 7 quarts of canned chicken and 7 bags to freeze for dinner!

All for less than $60! I call that a deal! 😉

It's so nice to be able to fill out shelves and freezers with meat as well as veggies and fruits!

So those mystery plants I had asked about finally bloomed! They are definitely not zinnias, as many people guessed.

They are actually Sweet William Catchfly!

According to Google:

Vibrant Blooms: The plant produces clusters of tiny, deep pink to magenta blossoms that appear from mid to late summer.Sticky Stems: Its common name, "Catchfly," comes from the sticky stems that trap small insects.

Growing Habits: It is an easy-to-grow annual or biennial species that prefers sunny, well-drained areas and typically reaches 16 to 20 inches in height!

I'm not sure where they came from but they really quite pretty and apparently the pollinators love them! That's a win in my book! ❤️

This girl cracks me up. Such a ham...I don't know where she gets it from. 🤷‍♀️

After days of rain, we took advantage of the sun and went through and strung up all 56 of our tomato plants!

Most have flowers already and are settling in nicely. I think they are especially enjoying the chicken poo and compost!

We even have our first tomato on a San Marzano plant! EEK!!!

What a great morning!
