Did you know that after 13 years in business, we opened our first brick and mortar shop last year? If you have been wondering why a seed company has been posting baked goods and coffee, well, here's an explanation now that we have finally gotten our feet under us.
The Foundroot Shop is many things. First, we needed an office to serve as our distribution center now that the business has grown and we are shipping all over the country year-round.
We also wanted a place for customers to get to touch all the beautiful kitchen and garden supplies we carry. Linen, wood, forged tools... you need to touch these things.
The space we took over used to be a bakery. No, there wasn't any kitchen equipment left but the vibes were still there. And if you have followed us at all over the years, you know we love baking vibes. We are also in the process of restarting our farm and you know what a seed farm has a lot of? Excess produce. To put in baked goods.
It's really a "if you give a mouse a cookies" scenario. We also just need more places to gather in our small town. So yeah, we accidently started a not-cafe. Test kitchen? Coffee bar? Mercantile? I don't know.... it's really cute though and we are opening for real for real this week. I think we have had a year's worth of soft openings trying to get our feet under us... Our community is very forgiving.
The Foundroot Shop at the Southeast Alaska State Fair Hours:
Thursday 7am-12pm
Friday 7am-12pm
Saturday 8am-1pm
Every other Wednesday evening during the Dalton City Limits concert series. And extra during special events happening at the Fair.
We are trying to source really cool, ethical, farmer-direct ingredients. Whole foods. Lots of butter. Come through.
