It’s been a tough couple of weeks. During Willow’s recovery, we discovered she was facing more serious health issues than we had known. After a weekend of not feeling well, she was diagnosed with cancer and toxicity. Within hours, we were faced with the heartbreaking decision to let her go.

We were grateful to bring her home one last time—to say goodbye to Cypress, her pasture, and the goats she loved so much.

We miss her deeply. Her gentle spirit left a lasting mark on this ranch, and we know she’ll always be a part of it.

We’ve been spending a lot of time mowing this week, getting ready for our rare winter guests arriving this month. During the colder months, I sometimes forget how much I enjoy mowing the upper part of the property. Heading up there at sunset and mowing for an hour or two—it’s good for the soul!

I picked up a new officemate in the Garage for the foreseeable weeks and months ahead. Willow underwent the first of her two major surgeries earlier this week. She’s having both knees re-constructed and ACLs repaired which were the result of genetic defects at birth. We are working to keep her off the first leg until she’s ready for the second surgery (in about another month). This week marked the first days she’s slept indoors (not in a barn or pasture) in over two years.

It turns out a third pig is on the way to the ranch! Unfortunately Trevor’s pig (Sauce) has a hernia and we are receiving a replacement pig for the 4H program. Trevor will continue to raise Sauce, but will not be showing or selling her at Fair this summer. The new pig is due this week and is reportedly already at 110 lbs making the other two look tiny!

More great progress! The Pygmy goats will soon have their own home in their pasture. No longer will they get displaced and spend time between other barns when pigs come on the ranch. The four pygmy goats should be able to “move in” in a couple of weeks!
