Local Country Farm Market Veteran Owner Provides Tucker County Folks With Fresh West Virginia Mountain Grown Farm Fresh Produce

I grew up in a small country house at the bottom of Mackeyville road in Hambleton, West Virginia with my mom, dad, two brothers and a sister. We never had much and my dad taught me how to plant and grow vegetables in the two small gardens he plowed out from the side of the mountain behind our family home.

Life was hard growing up, but it was also good and I remember the many hours I spent after school everyday working in the garden tending to the vegetable plants while all of the other boys in the neighbourhood scurried off to football practice or other after school activities.

After graduating from Parsons High School in 1978, I realized remaining in this economic depressed region of West Virginia without any possible chance of furthering my education or job skills beyond a high school diploma left me with very few opportunities to succeed beyond finding a minimum wage job at the local gas station, charcoal manufacturing plant, coal mining company or timber industry so I left and joined the United States Army.

After 34 years of honorable military service, 2 combat tours in Kuwait/Iraq and a final tour at the White House with President George W. Bush, I retired from the United States Army, returned home to Tucker County and bought a small 10 acre farm near Backbone Mountain in the rural farm area known as Sugarland’s and established Country Farm Market, LLC.
