Wowza!
This weekend this mom flew solo with the kiddos down to Jefferson for the BPBC show, and What. A. Weekend!! We have enjoyed this show for many years, from the quality of birds to the friends we have met, it’s always been awesome. It has been a goal of ours to get a bird up on champion row here, and this year we finally did it, not with just one but THREE! I don’t know who was more excited, me or the kids 🤪 Results are as follows (it will be a little long cause it was a double judged show)…

This weekend it was Jace’s turn to shine! Last year Gracie decided to step away from my RIR project and let Jace take over. Well she may be regretting that as our cockerel Scrat not only earned himself top bantam RIR (out of 46), not only Champion SCCL (out of 198), but also Reserve Champion Bantam! Jace earned his first “big show” trophy, and what an honor to do it against some unbelievable birds!!
WI International Poultry show in Portage is one of the most competitive shows that we attend, so getting a bird to place, even in junior, is an accomplishment. And it’s also a show the kids have a blast with some of their greatest friends ❤️
So here are the kids accomplishments and fun times…

Jace:
🏆 Best of Breed, Champion SCCL, and Reserve Champion Bantam with his bantam Rhode Island Red cockerel Scrat
🏆 Best of Breed with his Toulouse goose Daisy (bred by Josh Robus)
🏆 Best of Breed with his Pilgrim goose Curious
🏆 Reserve of Breed with his snowy Mallard drake Martin (bred by Kyla Struthers)
🏆 Blue Ribbon in beginner showmanship with his best score yet!

Gracie:
🏆 Champion Decorated Eggs
🏆 6th overall Pre-Jr showmanship (scored 97/100, out of over 15 kids, and was one of the youngest in her age group!)
🏆 Best Variety with her black bantam Ameraucana pullet
🏆 Reserve Variety with her black bantam Ameraucana cockerel
🏆 Best Variety with her blue bantam Ameraucana cockerel
🏆 Reserve Variety with her blue bantam Ameraucana pullet

Show season 2026 kicked off yesterday in the rainy Northwoods, and the Ameraucanas were the successful ones for us this weekend! Gracie has been working hard to improve her birds, so it’s great to see it pay off 🥰
Jace again was there for a good time, and to show off his goose that he absolutely loves (unfortunately the feeling really isn’t mutual 🤣). His showmanship score improves every time he does it - he’s come along way from last year when he wouldn’t even hold the bird!
Next weekend we head to Portage!
Results:

Jace:
🏆 Best Medium Goose (yellow card) with his Pilgrim goose Curious
🏆 Best of Breed Mallard (both cards) with his snowy mallard drake
🏆 Best Variety (both cards) with his black silkie roo Pocorn
🏆 Best of Breed Toulouse (both cards) with Daisy

Gracie:
🏆 Reserve Champion Pre-Junior Showmanship
🏆Champion AOSB (purple card) with her Ameraucana hen Zenyatta
🏆 Reserve Champion AOSB (purple card) with her Ameraucana roo War Admiral (bred by Triple S Farm)
🏆 Champion AOCCL (purple card) with her black bantam Ameraucana pullet
🏆 Reserve Champion AOCCL (purple card) with her blue bantam Ameraucana cockerel
🏆 Best Variety snowy call (purple card) with her hen Cooler
🏆 Reserve Variety snowy call (purple card) with her old male

The kids convinced me to show early this year and road trip to the Coulee Region Poultry Club show yesterday, and what a great show! Despite the heat, the kids had a great time hanging with friends and learning about their birds. They had some great success as well, which is hard to do this time of year with birds molting and some still in or just out of the breeding pen.
Results:

Gracie:
🏆 Reserve Champion Bantam Duck (both junior & open), Reserve Champion Waterfowl Junior with her Snowy Call hen
🏆 Champion AOCCL Junior with her Bantam Ameraucana rooster Black T-Rex
🏆 Champion Pre-Junior Showmanship

Jace:
🏆 Reserve of Breed with a gray Toulouse hen
🏆 personal best score in Pre-Junior showmanship

Bryce also came along (he didn’t allow me any pics lol) and he did well, with champion medium goose with his Steinbacher gander, reserve champion light duck with his Welsh Harlequin hen, and best variety with his gray call hen.

Now back to horse show season 😜
