New Queen 👑 has emerged and is laying so many eggs!

Spring Honey 🍯 is sooooo close to being ready.

Honeybees cap honey once its moisture content drops to around 18% or lower. Humidity plays a role in how long it takes for the nectar to become honey. Bees must fan their wings to evaporate water from the nectar.

We typically wait until a frame is fully capped but the rule of thumb is about 80% to 90% capped means it's safe to harvest. There are different ways to test the honey to see if the moisture content is low enough to take the frame and harvest. We use two methods usually if we do take a honey frame that is not fully capped. We do the "shake test" this is when Brian firmly shakes the frame downward. If nectar sprays out from the open cells, it is still too wet. For more scientific results we use a refractometer. Where we take little samples of honey from each frame and test it.

❗Public Service Announcement ❗

We are SOLD OUT of 🍯 honey.

This has never happened to us, it's good and bad and so many of our customers have been so happy and supportive towards us with this news.

The honeybees have been working bringing in spring honey over the last couple months. A couple weeks ago they were capping it so we are hopeful that we will have spring honey to harvest soon.

Stay tuned for an updated post on when we have spring honey 🍯 available.

Our Head Honey Sales-Pup 🐾 is not bringing his A game today 😴 💤

The honey 🍯 cabinet is running very low overall. We've sold so much this past year so we may actually run out before we harvest Spring 2026 Honey. Which is not that far away. This past week the weather has been absolutely beautiful and the girls have been working hard foraging and bringing nectar 🪻🌼 back to the hives.

Last weekend we had a customer turned friend stop by to grab a jar of honey 🍯 from us.

He also came with beautiful foraged treats for us. Aaron gifted us ramp leaves and fresh mint, all which he sustainably harvested. We walked around our property with him, which is one of our favorite things to do with him. He loves to see what we are growing each season and what fruit trees we have added to our orchard. He's interested in hearing about how they are producing (or which ones aren't). He is also one of the only people that is just as excited as we are that we're growing a Hardy Banana 🍌 tree here (fingers crossed it pops back up again this spring, we are on atleast our 5th season with it).

We made Ramp Biscuits. Along with Moussaka with the mint. We will also be trying out fresh mint chocolate chip cookies.

Today, we remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. Just as bees work tirelessly for the good of the hive, we reflect with deep gratitude on the selfless sacrifice of those who served for the good of us all.

This Memorial Day, as we enjoy nature’s quiet moments and the sweetness of summer beginning, let’s take a pause to say thank you.
