It has always been our family tradition to choose and cut our Christmas tree down on Thanksgiving weekend. This picture was from 2010. Our kids will now be working the tree farm to help your family create your own multigenerational memories of finding the “perfect” tree here at the farm.

Our youngest, Kai, graduated from high school this year and is attending SCC. He won the Olen L. Smith Memorial Scholarship, presented by the Hancock County Historical Society, for writing about the history of our Humphry Christmas Tree Farm and how he was grafted into the legacy.

History of the Humphry Christmas Tree Farm.
In the spring of 1971, Uncle Kim Humphry ordered 2,500 trees as a high school FFA project. Each year he would expand to other areas and plant more trees. In 1976, Uncle Stewart helped with the care and maintenance of the trees. In 1978 they began selling trees. It was expanded in the early 90’s by adding two more plots, between the house and the pond, and northwest of the barn. Uncle Kim & Aunt Kathy had about 5 acres of trees. As a teenager, John helped the family with the tree farm. They stopped selling trees in 2008. *Pictured is John and our two kids all bundled up, in 2005 picking out the perfect tree. It was a good 35 years, with many customers returning year after year. In 2014 John ordered 500 trees to bring the Humphry Christmas Tree Farm back. In 2023 he began selling trees. Uncle Kim says, “It was a family project; The benefits of learning to work together, saving for the future together, and being thankful for the opportunity to work and help Grandparents improve the farm, were invaluable experiences.” If you have a Christmas memory from 1978-2008, put it in the comments!
