This beautiful fall day was a sad one for the Bitter Root Stock Farm family (human, equine, canine...) as we said goodbye to Starlight, our beautiful, sweet, gentle, and very old mare. Born in 1992, her dam was Hungarian Etelka, who was also born at the ranch when our grandmother Margit had all her Hungarian Warmbloods. Starlight's sire was a Percheron Draft Horse named Spirit.
Starlight inherited her mother's long ears that were always tuned in to everything going on around her. She was always the most attentive horse. She got her calm and gentle disposition from both her mother and her father. She was the first of the Hungarian Warmblood/ Percheron draft horse crosses born at the ranch, a cross we grew to love very much for the great combination of traits that came from both sides.
She was both ridden and packed in the wilderness, but overall had a relaxed and low-key life on the ranch and enjoyed being spoiled. Knowing her time was coming, we spoiled her even more the last few weeks, and she got lots of her favorite treats, especially the peppermint ones. She would give the sweetest soft nickers when she saw you coming.
