Our Story
UnBEElievable Honey's main goal is to help keep Honeybees alive and to educate individuals of their importance in our ecosystem!! Bees are truly amazing and complex creatures, that we could all learn something from. Even though they can be pesky if in the wrong location we need them to help pollinate. They are extremely good for the local farmers and crops, plus I really like to eat. We want to make sure people know that they have options when it comes to the honeybees. Extracting honey and beeswax is just a SWEET bonus for us to enjoy. Honey also has tons of health benefits like fighting common allergies and healing wounds.
We are a small family owned father/daughter operation out of Pottsville Texas and we truly love what we do. However becoming beekeepers was almost accidental. My father Ray Stegemoller clears fence lines, among other things, and he kept running into hives that were in his way. He didn't want to kill them and he knew they couldn't stay so he called in help from a friend who was a beekeeper. After helping work our very first removal both my dad and myself, Shawna Johnson, fell in love. I didn't walk around as a kid thinking I wanted to be a beekeeper when I grew up but it feels in my lab and I could not be any happier about it! The colony, watching the bees, seeing the queen it was all mesmerizing. We began to study, research and gain hands-on experience to help us get started and used resources provided by Texas A&M and the Texas Apiary Inspection Services to help further our knowledge.
Both my father and I bring different qualities to the table and we each have spouses who work just as hard as we do behind the scenes. My father is an extremely creative artist type who can build just about anything. He's a pro when it comes to operating heavy equipment and in his spare time, you can find him in his wood shop jamming out to music. Raised up on a large farm he knows hard work and accepts a challenge. He owns large sawmills and makes things from large furniture to end side tables to vases and bowls as well. All of his tools, knowledge and carpentry skills come in handy when we have to tear down the side of a house or barn to safely and successfully remove a colony. His creativity allows us to think outside the box and gives us a competitive edge. He builds a lot of our bee boxes, bee vacuum systems and more and without his, this business would nonexistent!
I could get lost for days reading, studying and learning about bees, in the winter it occupies a lot of my time since we cant work bees for what seems like an eternity. I always look forward to the time of year when the flowers start blooming and the bees begin to buzz, the start of my busy season. This time of the year brings me lots of swarm captures and bee removal calls plus weekends peddling our honey and honey products at local farmers markets. I am constantly learning more information about a self-paced Master Beekeeping Program, which takes a minimal 5 years to obtain. On top of this, I am also currently enrolled in the American School for Science Healthcare college working toward a degree in CAM(Complimentary Alternative Medicine). My studies include smaller certifications along the way like the Certified Product Manufacturer certification. My specialization includes a dual major in both Aromatherapy and Herbology. This has given me the confidence and knowledge to formulate quality products such as my favorite Ouch Salve! Outside of work, I am a wife and a mother to 5 beautiful children and I love nature, being outside camping and adventure.
