Added some good stuff to the harvest list this week! We’ll be at market with salad, spinach, arugula, spicy mix, baby boc choi, kale, radishes, salad turnips, storage carrots, lots of tulip bunches and loads of plant starts for your gardens.

The countdown to market is now days instead of weeks (and soon it will be in hours, yikes!). We will be at the Hamilton Farmers market in our usual spot at the east end of Bedford street Saturday, 9:00-12:30. Salads and starts is the theme for this first week, and we are starting to get these baby plants hardened off for you, and baby greens galore are ready for harvest tomorrow. (We have sampled the arugula, it is divine). Also, in addition to tons of planting we are in a final push to finish everything so we can re-open the farmstore in its new space, the west end of our packshed, shooting to be ready by Sunday. See you soon!

Never turn your back on April around here. Yesterday we were sweating in t-shirts, celebrating the irrigation ditch flowing (River has a new goal of catching the local muskrat), but we are stomping the brakes on planned transplanting this week as we look at the possibility of record cold in a few days. Looks like we’ll be putting those second layers of cover back on some crops outside, and really counting on those high tunnels.

Even though we haven’t posted much, many spring things are happening! 250 new chicks was today’s biggest news….Noah is always the top mama-hen, but Taylor is pretty excited to make friends with each and every one of them as well. Eggs will be back in….16-20 weeks (mid-summer).

Fun facts: it's just 6 weeks till the start of Farm Membership season! The head-count from members already signed up shows we'll be feeding roughly 155.1 humans (congrats to the member family with a new little one the way!), and assorted pets with favorite veggie treats. We have room for about 30 more households to join; members pick out a weekly assortment of produce to fill their member bags, at market or at the farm. We actually did it…..farmstore is temporarily closed. We’ll be a little quieter than normal over this winter, but as soon as we figure out the spring re-opening timelines we will let you know. In the meantime, remember that you can still local produce through the online winter market at thanks to other awesome local growers. Thanks for all your support…:we were not sure how it would feel to shut the gates and post these signs and so far it mostly just feels…strange.

Final day of farmstore this year! We have marked down a lot of the winter squash, and there are still loads of carrots, radishes, Napa cabbages, and cabbage. Time to load up, before we take our first winter shut-down in a very long time.

I know we said this would be the last week of the farmstore but…..yesterday we found ourselves harvesting greens outside, from the field, in December. That was unexpected! And since there are still carrots, beets, cabbages, winter squash, onions, garlic, and winter radishes, we are going for one more week after all. Good time to come out and load up, because surely winter will come at some point!
