So the initial shutdown and (now) new restaurant restrictions have been hard on the entire economy. Before this slap in the face, we were selling upwards of 1,000lbs of mushrooms a week. Now we are struggling, with only about 250lbs in weekly sales, and future shutdowns look likely. We recently had to lay off 3 employees, and decrease production drastically. Because of this, we increased our bulk pricing from $8/lb to $10, to try and survive this, and have received responses that some in the already-struggling restaurant industry can't afford it. We have always strived to bring Kansas City the highest-quality, freshest local mushrooms they could find, at an affordable price with the upmost best customer service and delivery...and it is failing. At this point, we don't know what else to do.
Unfortunately, unless something happens in the next 6 weeks, our plans are to finish out our existing shiitake crop (maybe 2 months), and our small, family-owned business will be forced to be another victim of the government shutdowns.
