Planting the Future: 80,000 Christmas Trees in the Making! 🌲

We’re thrilled to share that this spring marks another step forward in our journey of growing a larger stock of beautiful Christmas trees. This season, we’re planting a mix of Fraser fir, white pine, and concolor fir on a 90-acre parcel of land just east of our main entrance.

This field has been part of our vision since we began planting here in 2024, and the first trees from this parcel will be ready for you to choose and cut by 2031-2032. Once ALL planting is complete in 2028, this field will hold over 80,000 Christmas trees, creating a magical space for future holiday memories.

We’re also continuing to use an all-natural, non-toxic product that acts like sunscreen for our trees. It’s been part of our process for the past four years, helping ensure our trees thrive under the sun.

🌱 The 2026 nursery season has officially begun at Hensler Nursery! 🌱

We’re kicking things off by planting our seed beds with a special seeder that’s been part of our tradition for generations. Since 1953, when Stanley Hensler planted the first seeds, Hensler Nursery has been growing strong—now three generations in!

Here at Hensler Nursery, we take great pride in growing the perfect Fraser Fir Christmas trees for your holiday celebrations. 🌱🌲 Seedling Planting Day is Almost Here 🌲🌱

In just 10 weeks, we’ll be planting Fraser Fir, Lake States White Pine, and a small number of Concolor Fir seedlings in our tree fields here at Hensler Nursery. These tiny trees will grow strong and tall over the next 7 to 8 years, preparing to become the centerpiece of your family’s Christmas celebrations. 🎄

When you visit us for ChristmasFest in the future, you’ll have the chance to cut down one of these beautiful trees and make it part of your holiday traditions. It’s amazing to think that the journey to your living room starts with this special planting day!

Why snow is a good thing for our seedlings.

Snow is actually so great for our 2-1 Norway Spruce seedlings. When snow covers the ground, it acts like a cozy blanket for the soil. This keeps the roots warmer and protects them from harsh cold and tricky freeze-thaw cycles. Snow also shields the tender bark and new growth from drying out or freezing winds.

As the snow melts, it provides the roots with a steady supply of water, just what our seedlings need to get ready for a strong spring. Seedlings that spend winter under snow usually have better root and shoot growth, setting them up for a healthy season ahead.
