Old Midwest Thanksgiving Tradition: Rabbit for Thanksgiving Dinner. Recently my customers have been recalling family traditions at Thanksgiving time. Several of these customers have mentioned that their family set out on Thanksgiving morning to hunt rabbit. Those rabbits became the main course for the day's special dinner. Families who would like to continue this tradition can get rabbit at the following places: House of Meat (Decatur), Beachy's Bulk Foods (Arthur), Dutch Valley Meat (Arthur), and Harvest Market (Champaign). Rabbits are are raised and processed locally.

Customers, Family, and other Friends:
My phone died last Friday evening taking much of my personal and business information with it. After extensive effort from three professional groups, I have only my emails and pictures. The files containing text messages sent before September 5 and my entire file of phone numbers are gone. As of September 6, I can receive texts and phone calls as well as emails, so I request those of you who had communication with me on my old phone, please contact me again through email, text, phone, or PM me through Facebook. I am particularly interested in communicating with people who had undelivered orders for rabbit and eggs; people with whom I have appointments, please notify me immediately. Thank you for your help as I rebuild this information.

The new Sterling Family Farms favorite recipe! Smoked rabbit! We are at the Decatur Central Park Farmers' Market on Saturday morning if you would like to get a rabbit for your special meal.
If you have ordered eggs or rabbit, please pick them up before 9 A.M. as we are usually sold out by that time.

Please order online so you can pick them up at Richland Community College, near DMH, or in Mt. Zion. I will contact you regarding the time and other specifics. You may also pick up on Saturday at our farm store from 10 A.M. - 2 P.M. or Wednesdays from 5 - 8 P.M. For directions to the farm, put a pin drop for Sterling Family Farms in the Google Maps site. We are easy to find!

Sterling Family Farms is a 26-acre sustainable farm located in Central Illinois. We specialize in pastured chicken for eggs and soup chickens, meat rabbits, and pastured goats for milk and cheeses.

Due to freezing temperatures and wind chill, farmers are still tending their animals so other people can have the food they need. Our livestock is sheltered with food and fresh water, and warm, dry bedding. Our hens are still laying eggs, and our rabbits are ready to provide that special winter dinner - pot pie anyone?

Brick'nMortar Store opening Dec. 28
For the next three Saturdays, Sterling Family Farms Brick-’n-Mortar store will open from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. on the farm location so you can pick up your eggs and rabbits. If you were accustomed to getting your eggs and/or rabbits from the Winter Market at Sliderz in Mt. Zion, this is your opportunity to continue availability of these wonderful, farm-fresh eggs.
