While some industries thrive on competition, we’re lucky to have a community of local farmers that are constantly sharing knowledge, lending a hand, and inspiring one another. We’re all invested in helping each other grow.

That’s why we’re grateful for growers like Todd at . For 20+ years, his care and attention to detail have produced some of the best products around. The mentorship and passion Evan experienced while working with Todd still influence how we farm today.

Whether it’s hooking us up with last-minute transplants after a cold snap this spring, setting aside varieties he knows we’ll be looking for, or simply sharing advice when we need it, we’re lucky to have growers like Todd and the whole Lighthouse Gardens team in our corner.

Here’s a look at what we’ve been facing in the fields this season…

From relentless rain and cold nights to surprise regrowth, farming is always a lesson in adapting. No two years are ever the same, and part of farming is learning how to pivot with what the season gives you. We’ll keep problem-solving and doing everything we can to keep the season moving forward!

Despite Monday morning’s optimism, our summer squash did not survive the recent cold snap.

Sometimes you take a gamble and the odds just aren’t in your favor. This is a part of the process and we’ll pivot, but first, a moment to mourn the summer squash that didn’t make it 💔

There’s something special about seeing our produce go from the field to the plate. We loved having Chef Michael Pavone from out to the farm this week to walk the fields, see what’s growing, and get inspired for the season ahead. We can’t wait to see what ends up on the menu this year🍴

Tomato season is officially underway 🍅 Soon these transplants will turn into a tomato forest and we can’t wait to watch them grow!

With this cold snap, there have been conversations amongst local growers about the best course of action. We’ve taken some gambles this spring, and after a big loss in mid-April and some sensitive vegetation already in the fields, we are choosing to cover–we can’t risk another loss when things are already looking this good!

On Earth Day, we’re thinking about what happens underground.

When we decrease tilling and focus on regenerative practices, we protect soil structure, supporting the living ecosystems and building healthier ground for crops to grow.

The result? Stronger plants, better yields, and more food to nourish our community, today and for generations to come.

This is a kale appreciation post 💚

Kale is a strong shoulder-season crop for us, as both curly and lacinato kale are highly cold-tolerant. The flavor even improves in cold weather!
