A few photos from the Icelandics enjoying some supervised free-range time today. They’re such active, curious birds and never seem to run out of things to investigate.🖤

We’re also offering 50% off hatching eggs for the rest of the season on both our Icelandic and Easter Egger eggs. (We do not have any more chicks, started pullets or hens available for the season)

Our 2027 hatching season kicks off early next year, and we can’t wait to get back to hatching!

•Our 2027 Breeds•

Hello everyone!

We thought we’d do a fun post about the breeds we’ll be offering for 2027 and, more importantly, why we breed them and why we love them so much. ❤️

We don’t choose our breeding groups simply because a breed is beautiful. We look at temperament, hardiness, egg production, breed characteristics and what we can contribute to each breeding program. One of our favorite parts of raising chickens is watching those carefully selected breeding groups produce something special.

🩵 Icelandics

Our Icelandic program is one we are especially excited about for 2027!

We produced a new rooster from our 2026 breeding group, including a beautiful rose-combed male that we’re excited to incorporate into our program.

There are so many reasons we love Icelandics:

* Extremely hardy and adaptable
* Handle both cold and hot weather well
* Reliable, consistent layers of white eggs
* Very personable when socialized from a young age
* Incredible variety of plumage colors and patterns
* Beautiful mottling, which our breeding group produces quite frequently
* Fabulous crests without being so excessive that they obstruct their vision

One of our favorite things about Icelandics is that you can hatch a group of chicks and get an incredible variety of colors and patterns.

💚 Easter Eggers & Olive Eggers

Our Egger program is going to be so much fun in 2027!

We’ve acquired a new Ameraucana rooster with an amazing temperament, and we’ve added several new hens to our breeding groups this season.

Our goal is to produce Eggers that stand out for both plumage and egg color.

We intentionally select breeds with calm, manageable temperaments and traits that we love, then combine those genetics to create unique offspring.

🤍 Silver Spangled Spitzhaubens

For 2027, we’ve made our Spitzhauben breeding group much smaller so that we can focus on the traits that are most important to us.

Our goal is to produce birds with:

* Tight, well-developed crests
* Clean, consistent spangling
* Good overall breed characteristics
* Even, manageable temperaments

For us, 2027 will be about perfecting our Spitzhaubens rather than producing large numbers.

We don’t expect to have a lot of Spitzhaubens available for sale, but there will still be chicks and eggs available here and there throughout the season.

🧡 NEW for 2027: Salmon Faverolles

We are incredibly excited to introduce Salmon Faverolles to The Rose Feather Coop!

We’ve spent this season carefully putting this breeding group together from three different breeders, selecting birds based on the qualities we value most.

We chose Faverolles because of their gentle, calm personalities and how well suited they are to a family flock and run setting. They’re also an absolutely gorgeous breed who lay beautiful pink eggs.

And there’s an extra exciting possibility with our breeding group:

We have the potential to produce Blue Faverolles. 💙

We can’t wait to share these beautiful birds with everyone in 2027!

🌹 Why We Breed

We want to produce birds that are beautiful, hardy, useful, personable and thoughtfully bred. It’s a family hobby, one that we love doing with our kids🖤

Every breeding group has a purpose. Some are focused on improving specific traits, some are focused on producing unique egg colors and plumage, and some are simply breeds we fell in love with and want to share with others.

New Breeds & Crosses Added to Our Easter & Olive Egger Breeding Program for 2027!

We’ve added some exciting new genetics to our Easter/Olive Egger pen this year, *below will be all covered by our Blue Ameraucana Roo Drax*

•Shetland Hen
We’re expecting bright blue and green egg layers, with the possibility of fun traits like beards, muffs, and crests!

• F1 Easter Egger — (Shetland Hen × Russian Pavlovskaya Roo)
This F1 is expected to produce a beautiful mint-like egg color. When we backcross these girls to Drax, we’re hoping to brighten the egg color in future generations while creating F2 Easter Eggers that could potentially have the whole package: beard, muffs, crest AND feathered legs!

•Blue & Black Ameraucanas
So excited to start working with pure Ameraucanas to produce beautiful true blue-egg layers. Depending on our numbers and breeding results, we may have limited availability of BBS Ameraucana chicks/hatching eggs in 2027!

• F1 Olive Egger — (Shetland Roo × Black Copper Marans Hen)
We’re hoping these offspring will produce light olive eggs while bringing in some of those gorgeous crests, beards, and muffs!

• Black Copper Marans
Adding BCM genetics helps us strengthen and solidify our Olive Egger program, especially as we work toward richer olive egg colors.

• Welsummer
We’re hoping this addition will give us some beautiful speckled olive egg layers down the road!

• BYM — (Red Mottled Pita Pinta × Russian Pavlovskaya)
This girl lays pink eggs, and we’re hoping crossing her with Drax will produce some sage-green layers! She also brings SO many fun traits to the table — bright red plumage, feathered legs, and an extra-fluffy beard and muffs! 😍

We’re so excited to see what these genetics produce next season! Our goal is to create unique, colorful Easter & Olive Eggers with both beautiful eggs AND fun, rare traits. 🌈

2027 is going to be a fun one at The Rose Feather Coop! (Pics of SOME of the new young additions)

So excited ❤️🎉

It’s happening!!

The Rose Feather Coop’s test hatch had fantastic fertility and all viable eggs from our first candling made it through the second candling and to lockdown. A blue egger was the first to hatch overnight and a sweet little Icelandic just hatched! Thank you again to the Rose Feather Coop for honoring us with the opportunity to test hatch while she’s preparing for a new little arrival of her own! 💕
