Plant-based food isn’t a movement.
It’s a marketing machine.

They took ultra-processed factory-made products, wrapped them in green packaging, sprinkled words like “sustainable,” “ethical,” “climate-friendly,” and “cruelty-free” across the label, and somehow convinced people they were making a healthier, smarter, more compassionate choice.

Meanwhile, the factories got richer.

They demonized the farmer.
They villainized the cow.
They made real butter scary.
They said raw milk would make you sick.
They made eggs controversial.
They turned beef into a climate crime.

Then they handed people fake meat, fake cheese, fake milk, fake eggs, seed oils, gums, starches, protein isolates, synthetic vitamins, preservatives, flavor enhancers, and ingredients that sound like they belong in a science lab.

And people clapped.
Because the propaganda worked.

When you dumb people down long enough, they stop asking questions. They stop flipping the package over. They stop wondering why the same corporations selling them “health” are profiting off sickness, confusion, and disconnection from real food.

A cow turns grass into milk and meat.
A chicken lays an egg.
A farmer grows food.

A factory makes a product, hires a marketing team, buys a moral halo, and sells it back to you at triple the price.

That’s not progress.
That’s propaganda with a barcode.

Maybelle finally released the hostage this week! Well over a week past her due date- her usual.

The morning after we stood staring at her, doubting my sanity as she laid looking so uncomfortable with her massive leaking udder, just chewing her cud, not a care in the world.

She's a great attentive momma & the calf is a spunky hereford/jersey bull that will fill the freezer one day.

Names are still being thrown around- Filet, Steak, Roast, Stew....

Maybelle is back in the milk shed acting like no time has passed, even with her extreme edema (swelling of her udder) this go round. We hand milk for the first few days while the colostrum clears out to give her relief of the excess milk she produces past what the calf can handle. She's such a good girl.

Did you know a cow's diet directly affects the makeup & taste of their milk?

When cows are on a fresh grass diet in the spring, summer & fall their milk & cream is more yellow in color. Therefore the products you make from their milk & cream are more yellow in color. I can always tell the difference of seasons in our butter stockpile in the freezer. Winter butter is whiter, closer to store-bought butter, while the spring, summer & fall butter is dark golden yellow.

Pictured is butter made in the spring. Literal gold 🤤 Cows are amazing. They literally turn grass into gold.

This is one of the many reasons we believe what your food eats makes a huge difference. We strive to feed our animals high quality all natural non-GMO feeds & unsprayed hay & pastures.

You are what you eat😉

Happy National Dairy Month

Did you know a cow has 1 udder, 4 quarters & 4 teats (one for each quarter) ?

Each quarter works independently. This means if one quarter or teat gets injured or infected it is operating separately from the other quarters. Or if a calf nurses from one teat, it is only emptying the milk from that quarter while the other quarters stay full.

This is a picture of Gracie this morning with her iodine teat dip pre-milking. You can see her 4 seperate quarters from this angle.

Maybelle, one of our other milk cows, is a 3 quarter cow meaning she only has milk in 3 of her quarters & teats. She "lost" the use of a quarter at her previous farm, likely from unresolved mastitis. Her "dead" quarter does not fill with milk & appears shrunken giving her udder a lopsided look. She still keeps up with the other girls' production using her 3 good quarters.

Cows are amazing animals & we love them🫶

Happy. National Dairy Month!

Did you know a cow can control the let down of her milk?

If shes not comfortable and relaxed she can literally hold back her milk where her teats don't fill with milk & nothing comes out when you try to milk her.

A cow can also hold back her cream for her calf. She will give you milk, just not the full cream content. This is why we usually bottle feed our calves or have a dedicated nurse cow for our calves once they have been with their mom full time for a few days.

Our cows enjoy being milked. They enjoy their feed ration while we milk them & the attention & affection they recieve. They literally come running when we call their name for milking time. (Yes all our cows know their names😀)

The reason we "lock" their head in a stanchion is for safety- ours & theirs. Most of the time our cows will happily stand to be milked. Sometimes I even forget to lock the head catch.
