MBF D Squad were winners at Windy City last weekend!

The dressage girls were out in full force for the first show of the season; we were lucky to have beautiful weather and the horses were absolute STARS all weekend long. Recap:

🥇Kate Wallace and her Opportune K were freaking on fire 🔥 and laid down a couple of beautiful tests, with the highlight being an AA T3 win with a 74.4%!!!!! 😱🤩😱🤩😱🤩 So proud of these two-Oliver is a big, strong, young horse and Kate has been patiently bringing him along with a focus on correct development-we are thrilled to see that patience paying off!

🥇Duewer Rich Teri brought her golden baby Querinus F to his first Lamplight show and we seriously could not have been more impressed with this 5 year old! His behavior matched his color all weekend long-he literally never put a foot wrong. Teri and Henry had some really good tests including an AA T3 win with a 70%. Teri has done the majority of the work on this young horse by herself and he’s one of the best-brained babies we’ve seen. Yay Teri!!!!

🥇Cari Shanks and Pjoter came out of the winter at full send, making their Third Level debut as well as taking on the 6 Year Old classes. Those young horse classes are TOUGH and this show was no exception. Pjoter earned a 68.5% in the 6 YOs on Sunday and got some really good feedback from the judges, as well as getting 2nd place at Third 3. We’ve adored Pjoter since he was sent to Helmut to be started 3 years ago and we love that he and Cari are doing so well together!

🥇Olivia Pilch brought FOUR (😳😳😳) horses-she was just a little busy-and per usual, her whole herd were total professionals. Her new ride Baileys on Ice won a Third 3 class on a 70.5%; Mollegardens Fashion won the PSG on Sunday (69.7%); and her best buddy Zeke returned to the show ring after a long break—these two gave the USEF Dressage Seat Equitation a try and earned a killer 78%! Last but not least, her young guy Dancer got in some really good schooling with both The Boss 😎 and Olivia and handled the atmosphere like a champ.

We had a great weekend and loved seeing so many friends after a long, cold, boring winter. HUGE thanks to everyone who came out to support our crew (Shirley Dau, Mady Wallace, Nora Wallace, Wjotek & Asia, Eric, Cari’s lovely parents)…..

And speaking of seeing friends, we were beyond excited to see Margret Schrant’s longtime BFF Athena in the ring with her new mom! Athena looks like a million bucks and it was so fun to see her doing so well ❤️❤️❤️

Thanks as always to Helmut for the schooling rides (though these ladies are getting pretty damn good and he actually didn’t have 1 million rides this show! Gotta take it easy on the old man 😜), the coaching, and keeping this crazy train on track….mostly. And on the subject of crazy, the most insane thing we saw last weekend was Helmut drinking water. Those of you who know him know that that’s….not normal. It was weird. He almost puked.

💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 We’re gettin’ after it at MBF! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

The Boss 😎 has kicked it into high gear with a packed schedule of lessons, training rides, XC schooling, and cracking the whip to get us all focused and ready for the summer show season. Everyone has come out of the winter much improved and we’re super stoked to get out there for the D shows and jumper shows too.

**Also less exciting: being asked “are you riding?” (answer: apparently not) or “are you praying?” (answer: no)…. “Well, you should be”

Show season officially kicks off this coming weekend at Windy City Dressage at Lamplight. Looking forward to seeing friends, knocking the dust off our show jackets, and having some fun!

Congratulations to all parties on the sale of Duewer Rich Teri’s Devante LDS (aka Davey) (also aka Mikey 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣)!!!!

Davey has been at MBF since he was a young ‘un and we’ve all grown fond of him over the years. So happy that he’s settled into a great home and we’re looking forward to seeing all of his adventures with his new mom!

We’re looking for a FULL TIME employee to join our fun, wacky team at MBF/HorseLogic LLC.

Details:

-21 stall horse farm in Burlington/Sycamore

-Duties include stall cleaning, turn out/bring in horses, feeding, and basic farm work

-Pay is competitive based on experience and could include board for 1 horse

-Employee must be able to lift 50 lbs, be responsible and reliable….horse experience is a huge plus!

-Great work environment: low key atmosphere, some flexibility in hours/schedule, plenty of equipment available (tractors, spreader, lift, etc)

And just like that 🫰🏼Florida season 2026 is over and The Boss 😎 is on his way back to Illinois, where we no longer have seasons-just brief interludes of decent weather in between long stretches of snow, wind, rain, hail, ice and freezing temperatures. 😭 Helmut was already complaining about the weather yesterday and he was barely past Orlando…. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

The MBF/Horse Logic LLC crew is looking forward to having the Schrants home again (also excited to meet a couple of new ponies 👀😮); but, it’s always a little bittersweet saying goodbye to our Florida family. Jen Moskal Biebel and —thank you so much for your gracious hospitality for another year. We’re so lucky to stay at your farm every winter and grateful for everything you do for us and our horses! 😘 Emily Setton: so glad we were able to see so much of you and V-let’s do it again next year! ❤️

The Boss 😎 and Christina Schrant should be home with the horses this afternoon. Helmut has some vacation time planned for April but will be fully up and running by May 1. ☀️☀️☀️FLORIDA NEWS☀️☀️☀️

Helmut and crew are settled in at Jen Moskal-Biebel’s lovely farm, and people and horses are back to work and getting down to business. The MBF south-ers have already hit a few schooling shows to warm up for the 2026 season….

The Boss 😎 and Olivia Pilch Dressage’s Lord Europe Dancier took a field trip to White Fences and mic-dropped a 71.143% at Second 1, including a freaking 9!!!! 😱🤩 We’re, like, 99% sure this is due to Helmut finally riding in a dressage saddle 🤣🤣🤣

The jumper horses have been getting after it at The Ridge; Jen and her Lalique IF were champion in the .80s last month (placing 1st and 2nd in BIG classes) 🏆🥇🥈🏆and knocked out a few solid trips again last weekend at the February show.

Jaclyn Plock’s Sullivan has hit the ground running and skipped around the .80s at both shows-great prep for the summer season at home 🤩🤩🤩

Finally, we are THRILLED that long (LONG) time MBF friend Emily Setton has returned with her little sports car of a mare Versace for a month of Boss Bootcamp!

Our social media manager visited MBF South last weekend and can confirm that the horses look great, the people are getting tan, and everyone down there is absolutely traumatized by the “cold weather” they had recently.

Most importantly, Izzy is doing great and living her best winter life in Wellington 🐶🐾😍

It’s that time of year again….the Schrant family has loaded up the old family truckster and trailer and, as we speak, are headed down to Florida for the winter season. The trailer is full of hay and horses and the truck is full of Oreos, Skittles and Diet Coke. 🥤

Those of us who stayed up north are either celebrating the break from being asked to count strides 🤪 OR crying into our whiskey 🥃because we’ve been abandoned for the winter 😭

Helmut, Gerrit, Christina, Margret, Izzy—we’re wishing you safe travels with good weather, light traffic, zero flat tires and an uneventful stop at the weigh station (no 🚨🚔👮‍♀️this year)!
