We moved to the country to “commune” with nature but now we spend our days preparing for it, fighting with it, and recovering from it.
Snow, ice, wind, torrential rain, drought. Weather is work.
And
Flying squirrels in the eaves, birds drilling holes in the house, hoards of house sparrows nesting on the cabin eaves, a woodchuck or 5 (momma was busy) taking out a few errant sunflowers I was happy to see until they were gone, mice prevention/trapping in many shapes and forms.
And
Garden pests: hornworms, powdery mildew, stink bugs, squash bugs. Wasps, yellow jackets, carpenter bees, carpenter ants, little ants, & even medium sized ants. Emerald ash borers killing huge old ash trees that will require young strong men to climb for removal.
And then there’s cutting, splitting, hauling and stacking firewood.
A Condo on the beach starts to look pretty appealing some days.
Oops forget that, it’s hurricane season.
