With a Heart Full of Gratitude

I want to take this opportunity to express my deepest and most sincere gratitude, on behalf of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Soup Kitchen, to the most amazing team of people anyone could ever have the blessing of sharing this journey with.

Carl Pro, Richard Thomas, Jeanie Harlan, Joann Galbo, Mary Segal-Spillman, Margie Baran, Nancy Henry, Irene Kowalczyk, Louise and Robert Pachla and Joe Serneck — week after week, month after month, you continue to show up with willing hearts, helping hands, and an unwavering commitment to our community, our friends, and our neighbors.

There really are no perfect words to describe what your dedication means. You give your time, your energy, and so much of yourselves to make sure that others have a little more food on their tables and a little more hope in their hearts. You never ask for recognition; you simply come together and get the work done. I am truly blessed and grateful to have each and every one of you beside me on this journey.

To Our Amazing Lippert Incorporated Volunteers

A very special and heartfelt THANK YOU goes to our dedicated Lippert Incorporated volunteers:

Steve Spicuzzi, Tony Wolf, Dianna Franzoni, Marsha, AJ, Tiana, and Stefan.

Each month, you give up part of your Friday to make the trip to Hamtramck and lend your time, strength, and kindness to help feed members of our community.

Your willingness to serve reminds us that kindness has no boundaries. You could spend your time anywhere, yet you choose to spend it helping others. Please know how very much that means to all of us. Your generosity and friendship have become such an important part of what we do.

To Our Silent Givers — Our “Sharers”

I also want to take a moment to recognize some very special people whom I lovingly call our silent givers — our “sharers.”

Susan Brisky, Debbie Mularski-Warren, Paul Opalewski, Cynthia Luberski-Cervenak, Ethel Fiddler, Dave Hypnarowicz, Linda Ignaczak, and, last but certainly not least, Diana Elizabeth.

You may not be standing beside us at the tables or unloading food, but please never underestimate the difference you make.

By simply taking a few moments out of your day to share our food giveaway posts, you help spread the word to people who may otherwise never know that this resource is available. Because of you, our message reaches farther, and we are able to welcome and help more members of our community.

And Diana — sharing our post to more than four pages every single week deserves its own special round of applause!

We appreciate every single share, every bit of encouragement, and every person you help us reach.

So please… keep sharing! Your quiet acts of kindness are making a very real difference.

And Then There Was a Birthday! 🎂

Of course, we couldn't get through Thursday without celebrating a birthday in the house!

Our number-one bro, Carl Pro, turned 70! And naturally, we had to celebrate him properly with a special cassata cake.

And what a cake it was!

It was honestly one of the best-looking — and best-tasting — cakes we have enjoyed in a very long time. A huge THANK YOU to Mannino’s Bakery for making one heck of a cake for our birthday boy!

Carl, we hope you know how much you mean to all of us. Seventy years young and still showing up, giving of yourself, and helping others. We are grateful for you and hope you had a birthday filled with the same joy you bring to so many others.

And One More Very Special Thank You…

Mary Spillman, I would be remiss if I didn't give you an extra-special thank you for everything you did for us this week — and especially for making the trip to Gleaners with us today.

You always seem to find another way to help, another task to take on, and another way to make things a little easier for everyone around you.

Sometimes, in the busyness of everything we do, we forget to stop and recognize just how fortunate we are to have someone like you along for this ride.

So today, I want to make sure you hear it:

THANK YOU, MARY.

Thank you for your time.
Thank you for your extra effort.
Thank you for your willingness to always help.
And most of all, thank you for simply being you.

From the Bottom of My Heart

When I look around at this incredible group of people, I am reminded that the work we do is so much bigger than food.

It is about people helping people.
It is about dignity.
It is about kindness.
It is about friendship.
It is about neighbors taking care of neighbors.

And I truly believe that God places certain people in our lives at exactly the right time. I feel incredibly blessed that He has placed all of you in mine.

Thank you for continuing to show up. Thank you for believing in what we are doing. Thank you for giving so generously of your time and yourselves.

I am grateful beyond words for every one of you.

May God bless you, your families, your generosity, and every good deed you quietly do for someone else.

With a very grateful heart,

Kathleen

08/06/2026

Another blessed Thursday is in the books for the Our Lady Queen of Apostles Soup Kitchen, and once again my heart is overflowing with gratitude. Every week I am reminded that God's work is accomplished through the loving hands and generous hearts of His faithful servants. No one person could ever do this alone—it truly takes a team united in faith, compassion, and a desire to serve our neighbors.
Today I want to offer my deepest and most sincere thanks to Carl Pro, Richard Thomas, Mary Spillman, Annette Skalski, Margie Baran, Katie, Miles, Maverick, Louise Pachla, Bob Pachla, and Evelyn Pachla. Your willingness to answer God's call allowed us to provide another 65 families with a free lunch and fresh food. Every smile shared, every bag handed out, and every act of kindness became a reflection of Christ's love for those we serve. Your dedication is nothing short of a blessing, and I thank God for each of you.
I also want to express my heartfelt appreciation to all of our wonderful friends who faithfully share our weekly posts. A special thank you to Diana Elizabeth Frkan, Debbie Warren, Mary Spillman, Susan Briskey, Paul Opalewski, Cynthia Luberski Cervenak, Dave Hypnarowicz, Linda Ignaziak, Bob Pachla, Ethel Fiddler, Linda Ignaczak, and everyone else who took a few moments out of your day to spread the word. You may never fully realize how important your simple act of sharing is. Through your kindness, God helps us reach those who may be struggling, hungry, or simply in need of hope. You are an important part of this ministry, and we are truly grateful.
A very special thank you also goes to Carl Pro, Richard Thomas, and Mary Segal-Spillman, who, after already volunteering, stayed even longer to pick up a pallet and a half of donated food from one of our vendors. Their selfless commitment and tireless dedication help ensure that we can continue serving those in need week after week. Their generosity of time and spirit is an incredible witness to what it means to live the Gospel.
As I reflect on another successful day, I am reminded of the words of our Lord:
"Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me." — Matthew 25:40
To every volunteer, every donor, every person who shares our mission, and everyone who keeps this ministry in their prayers, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are truly the hands and feet of Christ, bringing His love, mercy, and compassion to our community.
May God continue to bless each of you abundantly. May He reward your kindness, strengthen your hearts, and fill your lives with the same love and hope that you so freely give to others.
God bless each and every one of you, always.
