🥶 FREEZE WATCH ISSUED FOR MUCH OF IOWA!

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Watch for a large portion of Iowa from late Friday night through Saturday morning as some of the coldest temperatures of the season are expected to move into the region.

Temperatures could fall into the upper 20s to around 30 degrees across much of the state, with some locations in northeast Iowa potentially dropping as low as 27 degrees.

These temperatures could bring a widespread freeze, potentially damaging or killing sensitive vegetation and any remaining crops that have not been harvested. If you still have outdoor plants or flowers you want to keep around, now is the time to make plans to bring them indoors or provide protection. Unprotected outdoor plumbing could also be at risk.

A Freeze Watch means conditions are favorable for temperatures to fall below freezing, but the exact extent and severity of the freeze are still uncertain. The watch may be upgraded to a Freeze Warning as confidence increases.

We'll continue to monitor the forecast and provide updates as we get closer to Friday night!

❤❤❤
Today is a long-overdue recognition of the women of the countryside. For generations, they have quietly carried rural life on their shoulders: rising before dawn, tending gardens and animals, preserving the harvest, feeding families and holding communities together. Their work has rarely been celebrated, but it has never stopped. Today, we see you, and we thank you.

We will finally transition from sweaty weather to sweater weather this week! A cold front will move through Tuesday, bringing increasing rain chances and cooler temperatures. By next weekend we could see highs fall into the 50s and 60s, with morning lows in the 30s.

OUTDATED POST

A “HURRICANE” IN NEBRASKA? 😳
While we have several rain chances this week - the path of the remnants of former Hurricane Polo could have a fairly strong impact on Nebraska receiving moderate to heavy rainfall later in the work week. Shown in this map are the “Spaghetti Plots” of various forecast models of the future track. Most favor a track somewhere close the the Central Plains. One thing to note is that this comes on the heels of rainfall coming in the Tuesday time-frame. Obviously worth watching over the coming days.

TONIGHT! 🌕️ Rising low on the horizon, September's Full Harvest Moon will appear bigger, brighter, and more golden than any other Moon this year, casting long light across autumn fields and evening skies.

The Harvest Moon is the full Moon closest to the autumnal equinox (September 22 or 23). Unlike other full Moons, it rises about the same time for several nights, providing extended evening light. Historically, this extra illumination helped farmers complete their harvests before fall frosts.

This year, it'll reach peak illumination at 12:49 p.m. ET today, but it will be below the horizon at this time. Be sure to watch for it after sunset… it will be hard to miss!
