Want some wonderful maple trees for free!? Well it's that time of year where all the baby maples are popping up in the yard. Pay close attention while you are pulling weeds and you might just come across some.

Below is an example of some seedlings that have sprouted at our place. On the left is a "Big Leaf Maple" (more common native maple for western Washington) and on the right is a "Vine Leaf Maple" (more rare and much smaller variety of maple)

The Big leaf maple make great large trees for fields, green belts or maybe even a tree house in the future. Vine Leafs are great for small yards and closer to homes because of their small heights.

Both offer beautiful colors in the fall and plenty of leaves for the kids to play in. Also consider more deciduous trees around your lawn and less conifers if you want a lush lawn but some shade as well.

*Note* This vine is very tender and will need some extra care, most likely in winter, to help it survive.
