It feels strange to grieve someone I never knew. And yet, today, so many of us are.

The outpouring of love has been almost unimaginable. Dolly Parton touched so many lives, including those of us who never had the privilege of meeting her. Her legacy of generosity, humor, and being unapologetically herself will live on far beyond her lifetime.

I could never compare this sadness to the deeply personal grief of losing someone we actually know and love—the kind of loss so many of us carry. But maybe there is something beautiful about grieving a public figure like Dolly together. For a moment, we have permission to feel loss out loud—not just for her, but perhaps for all the people we’ve loved and lost along the way. It gives us a shared moment to reflect on what they meant to us, what they taught us, and what pieces of them we choose to carry forward.

After any loss, I think about those pieces—the qualities I want to keep alive in the way I live. From Dolly, I’ll take with me her generosity, determination, belief in women, willingness to dream ridiculously big, and most importantly, the courage to be entirely yourself.

As I began my farm journey, Dolly became a beacon of empowerment for me. She built something entirely her own. She was feminine and formidable, generous and ambitious, glamorous and hardworking—and never seemed to believe she had to diminish one part of herself to be taken seriously in another.

Many of you have celebrated her with me during our Dolly Days at the farm, and we will keep celebrating her here. 🌸

Today has shown me how clearly the people in my life know what I love. Messages from my friends and family started pouring in because they associate me with Dolly. It made me realize I wear my passions pretty openly.

I’m proud of that.

I never want to become too guarded or afraid of what people think to love the things I love. That fearlessness is something I’ll hold onto in her honor.

As Dolly said, “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

I intend to.

We lost an American saint, but heaven gained a rhinestone-studded angel. Cheers to her big hair, big dreams, and an even bigger heart. Love you Dolly 🌸🩷

Today was such a wonderful reminder of just how special the farming community is. D & S Plantation hosted the Summer Spotlight for the SC Agritourism Association—one of my absolute favorite organizations to be a part of—and what Sammie, Doris, Harold and their family have created right here in Hardeeville is truly something special.

From their community garden and produce grown for neighbors, to cattle and just about every farm animal you can imagine, D&S is an oasis built on family, hard work, and a genuine love for their community. They have also been incredible supporters of Helena Hills Farm as I’ve found my footing as a new farmer, always offering encouragement, advice, and a helping hand. I’m so grateful to have them right down the road.

If you haven’t experienced D&S Plantation yet, add a visit to your club, community, or group’s calendar. There is so much to see, learn, and enjoy!

And a special shoutout to our fellow Jasper and Beaufort County farms who were such an great part of today’s event: Morning Glory Homestead, luna_farm_llc_sc, and the association’s newest members, Hardee Greens . 🌱

Days like today remind me that farming may happen on our individual pieces of land, but none of us are doing it alone. 🌻

🐛 Meet the newest residents of Helena Hills Farm: Boris & Natasha! While my good friend and Garden Guild member Colleen was here helping me with seed starting this morning, she spotted these beauties munching away on milkweed—monarch caterpillars!!

Colleen quickly got them set up in their little habitat and gave me a crash course in just how much these tiny creatures eat… and p**p. Now say a little prayer that I can keep Boris & Natasha happy and healthy as they make their way toward the chrysalis stage and, hopefully, become beautiful monarch butterflies!

I’m constantly learning out here, and I’m so grateful for the community of people teaching me along the way. Creating a farm where flowers grow is wonderful—but building an ecosystem where pollinators and wildlife can flourish alongside them is even better.

Stay tuned for the Boris & Natasha butterfly watch! 🦋

🌻 So long, summer. Daniel from DeTinne Creative Photography stopped by the farm this summer, and seeing these photos takes me right back to all the beautiful blooms that filled the gardens.

It brings me so much joy to look back at everything we grew and all the hard work that went into this past season. It’s also a sweet reminder of why this time of resting and replanting is so important. The gardens—and this flower farmer—need a little reset before we do it all over again.

Here’s to the summer heat slowly fading away and a beautiful fall season ahead. Cooler days, crisp mornings, and maybe even a little sweater weather.

Thank you, Daniel, for capturing this season of the farm so beautifully. 🤍

We love a good plant sale! 🌿🚗 The SUV was packed to the brim after our trip to the Trident Technical College plant sale, and I couldn’t be more excited to get these beauties in the ground. We came home with a gorgeous mix of natives, annuals, and perennials that will provide color, habitat, and blooms for years to come.

You can truly see the care and dedication that went into growing every single plant. A huge thank you to the students, faculty, and everyone involved in Trident Tech’s Agriculture Program. The education, resources, and support they provide to home gardeners and farmers alike are truly unmatched.

Now comes the fun part… finding the perfect home for every plant! 💚

Today’s Garden Guild craft day was one for the books. 📚🌻 There is something incredibly special about gathering around a table with friends who simply love to create.

This afternoon, our Garden Guild transformed pressed flowers from the gardens into keepsakes that will soon find their way to fall markets, holiday gifts, and future Helena Hills Farm workshops. We spent the day designing botanical frames, ornaments, and bookmarks—each one completely unique and made by hand.

More than anything, I’m grateful for this beautiful crew of ladies who generously share their time, creativity, and encouragement. Helena Hills Farm wouldn’t be what it is without this village behind the scenes. Thank you for spending your afternoon laughing, creating, and helping bring new ideas to life.

Interested in joining our flower farm Garden Guild? Learn more and sign up on the farm website (link in bio). We’d love to meet you!

No better way to start the week than meeting Cherry Blossom and Oreo at in Bluffton🐮

Y’all, they were the cutest!! The farm is absolutely beautiful, and the family was so warm and welcoming. They patiently answered all 100 of my questions about the Highland cows, chickens, barn cats, and farm life.

Be sure to check out their website to learn more and book a cuddle session and farm tour. It’s such a special experience!

I’m so grateful to add another farming friend to my circle. No matter how much we grow, there is always more to learn—and it’s even better when we can learn from and support one another. 🤍
