I mentioned Aloe vera a few weeks back, Aloe has probably been used by people more for healing purposes than any plant on earth. vera Legend says that Aristotle convinced Alexander the Great to conquer the island of Socotra (in modern-day Yemen) around 325 B.C. to secure massive supplies of aloe vera. The army used the plant's gel and juice to treat sword wounds and heal injured soldiers during military campaigns. The Legend and HistoryThe Socotra Conquest: Historical and medieval legends claim Aristotle knew of the island's rich aloe fields and urged his former royal student to capture it so the troops would have a steady supply of medicine.Wound Healing: Military doctors traveling with Alexander applied the bitter plant juices to cuts, burns, and battle injuries to speed up recovery and prevent severe inflammation.Wider Ancient Uses: Long before Alexander, civilizations like the ancient Egyptians used aloe as a sacred healing remedy and part of their embalming We have a few of our Aloe vera plants available with tips and instructions so you will not kill yours as many have. Beautiful, Fast-Growing River Birch — Native, Hardy & Pollinator-Friendly!
Have you noticed how expensive trees have become? We know firsthand. We grew up working in our family’s nursery, growing all kinds of trees, shrubs, and plants. Over the years, we’ve developed a real appreciation for trees that are beautiful, useful, fast-growing, and well-suited to our area.
One of my longtime favorites is the River Birch (Betula nigra). ❤️🌳
The bark is absolutely beautiful, and as the tree matures, it develops that gorgeous peeling bark that makes River Birch such a standout in the landscape. Even better, it provides valuable habitat and support for pollinators and other wildlife—which we desperately need.
And the best part? River Birch is not difficult to grow!
It tolerates a variety of soil types and is native to much of North Carolina and the surrounding region. Young River Birch can grow up to 3 feet a year under good conditions, making it a wonderful choice when you don't want to wait forever for a beautiful shade tree.
🌱 Our River Birch trees are basically ready to plant now!
These are 3-gallon trees, approximately 3–4 feet tall, grown from native North Carolina and Tennessee seed sources.
🌳 Single-stem: $35🌳 Multi-stem (2–4 stems): $40
We specifically wanted to offer trees that are large enough to make an impact but still manageable for the average homeowner to plant and care for.
And we're not just sending you home with a tree. We'll give you the planting and care instructions you need to get the most from it—including advice on fertilizer, watering, mulching, and those little things that help your tree really thrive.
River Birch is one of those trees where getting the basics right goes a long way: plant it properly, mulch it, give it what it needs, and let it grow.
Within a few years, you'll be enjoying that beautiful exfoliating bark and watching your tree become a permanent part of your landscape. 🌳❤️
We're proud to offer trees grown from native regional seed sources, and we're happy to share what we've learned from generations of growing trees.
If you've been wanting to add a beautiful native tree to your property, River Birch is definitely one to consider.
🌱🌳 Healthy trees. Native genetics. Straightforward care. And something beautiful you can enjoy for years to come.
